University Hospital Kerry is the second largest of the Health Service Executive –South’s seven acute hospitals. With a catchment area of Kerry, North Cork & West Limerick it services a population of approx. over 180,554. In addition, the Kerry area has quite a large visiting population – Bord Fáilte/ Shannon Development estimate there are approximately 2 million tourists visiting this region annually, principally during the summer months.

The 24/7 Emergency department cares for 39,000 Emergency presentations average annual activity levels of 11,000 Day Cases Presentations and 54,000 Outpatient Attendances.

The hospital has 275 acute general beds; 50 Acute Psychiatric beds, and an Annual Budget of approximately 70 million. The Oncology services have recently moved into an interm Unit within UHK with a plan for a purpose built unit on the grounds of UHK currently at design stage.

• Renal Dialysis Satellite Unit

The Medical Directorate is comprised of General Medical Wards/ Rehabilitation ward, Renal Dialysis Satellite Unit, Oncology Unit, cardiology and stroke unit.

The Oncology unit in UHK is a satellite unit of CUH. The service was established in1999 as part of the National cancer strategy through the national cancer control programme as part of the SSWHG. It provides cancer services to predominantly people who live in Kerry, but also North Cork and West Limerick. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology team and contribute to service enhancement, patient experience and quality care.

Purpose of Post

The post of CNM 2 has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are: quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.
