Assistant Manager
Main Purpose of the Job:
To ensure the store operates efficiently and effectively and provides our customers with the very best customer service and fresh food offering at all times in a clean, safe environment. To deliver on key store targets (sales and profitability) through effective management of people and operations.
Relevant Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 2 years experience in a management position
- Must have Level 1 & 2 knowledge of food safety
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Working knowledge of the CBE system is desirable
- Experience balancing cash/tills
- Excellent communication skills
- Good delegation skills
- Highly driven with a strong work ethic
- An understanding of how to achieve KPIs and targets
- Commerciality and brand awareness
- Passion for grocery retail
- Thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
Main Duties:
1. Always ensure that customer satisfaction is the number one priority by greeting each customer as if it’s their first visit to the store and consistently deliver an exceptional service by displaying I-CARE service excellence behaviors
2. Organized, self-driven, excellent attention to detail and use own initiative
3 Approachable and a role model who leads by example and encourages teamwork, foster a positive attitude and atmosphere in the workplace
4. Develop and promote good communication between employees and management in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment
5. Seek opportunities for personal development to enhance technical and professional skills
6. Support Store Manager in the development and training of the team to meet the SuperValu Retail Excellence and I CARE Service Excellence standards
7. Support the Store Manager in ensuring the smooth running of the store by prioritising and delegating the workload appropriately
8.Foster good working relationships among the team and with the local community
9. Ensure all employees wear their full uniform, name badge and display a neat appearance at all times
10. Ensure all equipment is used in accordance with instructions
11. Manage employee performance, giving regular feedback, recognition, and encouragement;
12. Deal with all customer queries and complaints politely, professionally, and consistent with store policy
13. Understand achieving margins in all departments
14. Ensure that the company GOLD system is maintained to reflect a true picture of the company’s performance
15. Ensure the correct cost price is against local suppliers
16. Implement planograms correctly and ensure the correct range is in place in the store
17. Have a strong working knowledge of relevant legislation as it pertains to the Store, in particular
but not limited to, Food Safety regulations, Health & Safety regulations, sale of alcohol and employment legislation
18. Ensure the store is compliant with the relevant legislation and implement procedures as required
19. Ensure adherence to Store, policies and procedures
20. Ensuring all HACCP best practices are implemented across the store
21. Achieve status in EIQA
22. Achieve Service Excellence in mystery shop reports
23. Ensure the adequate timekeeping and attendance of employees
24. Manage employee rostering and annual leave and maintain accurate and secure records
25. Ensure merchandising and presentation of the entire store is of the highest standard at all times and in accordance with relevant store planograms and guidelines
26. Implement policies to gain operational efficiencies i.e. Gold reports/scanning information etc.
27. Support Store Manager in achieving Retail Excellence Standards
28. Set, monitor and achieve sales targets with the team on gross profit margin, net margin, waste, and other KPIs as agreed with the Store Manager
29. Assume Store Manager responsibilities in their absence
30. Hold management meetings when required
31. Engage with new initiatives and embrace new ways of working

33. Perform any other duties or assume any other responsibilities that may be assigned to you from time to time.
