Role: Assistant Psychologist

Location: Tullamore

Tenure: Two Year fixed term contract

Contract Hours: 39hours per week

Salary scale: Assistant Psychologist scale

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our evolving psychological services team led by the Principal Psychology Manager. The post will involve close collaborative working with the Senior Psychologist. The post holder will provide psychological supports to a broad range of individuals with intellectual disabilities, Autism and mental health concerns Although the post is for normal office hours, the successful candidate will be committed to a high degree of flexibility

You will work under the supervision of a Senior Psychologist to provide psychological formulation and a range of therapeutic interventions. Main Duties of the Job

Assist in delivering high-quality psychological supports in line with professional standards, guidelines, and organisational priorities.

Contribute to clinical administration, audit, data collection, and service development projects.

Support and empower adults with complex support needs to live rich and connected lives.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential
A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in Psychology
Eligible for Graduate Membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI)

Qualifications – Desirable

Relevant post-graduate qualification in applied psychology

Experience – Essential
Relevant experience and demonstrable skills in working with adults with intellectual disabilities and Autistic adults with high support needs

Experience - Desirable

Experience working as an Assistant Psychologist or similar role in a relevant clinical setting
Experience working collaboratively with families, and multidisciplinary teams

Knowledge and Skills

Full driving license, access to car and ability to travel across a broad geographical area
Understanding of the psychological needs of people with intellectual disabilities, autism, and mental health difficulties

Understanding of neuroaffirmative approaches to working with individuals
Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Personal Qualities
A positive, respectful attitude towards neurodivergent individuals and those with intellectual disabilities

Willingness and availability to work flexible hours in response to service demands
Flexibility, creativity, and a strong commitment to inclusive, person-centred practice
