Multi Task Attendant

Responsibilities and accountabilities
· Respect patients/clients and their families showing dignity, courtesy and professionalism at all times.
· Carry out all duties in a prompt, efficient and professional manner.
· Base yourself at the designated location i.e. Neo-Natal Unit, or other area(s) as needed
· Cleaning of all medical and patient-use equipment, utilising necessary procedures and tools
· Perform any housekeeping, laundry, portering or general duties as assigned.
· Report all equipment faults in a timely and efficient manner.
· Maintenance of sluice rooms and store rooms in a hygienic condition.
· Removal and replacement of sharps bins.
· Ensure that full uniform as provided by the hospital be clean and worn at all times while on duty.
· Attend training as required. Maintain continuous personal development and participate in team based development, education, training and learning.
· Adhere to the scheduled shift times and breaks.
· Assist in the provision of a quality service and work in line with national and locally devised policies and regulations.
· Maintain the confidentiality of all information made available to him / her during the course of his / her work.
· Maintain a strict code of personal and general hygiene in the work place as per work schedules and existing policies and procedures.
· When directed be responsiblefor the transportation of relevant medical charts and products etc throughout the hospital.
· Report any equipment faults to person in charge and ensure all equipment is stored safely.
· Carry out any other duties as required. Please note that the duties of this position may change over time.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
· Carry out all activities required as directed by the midwife/nurse/manager in charge as appropriate to the post.
· Ensure maintenance of good relationships, communication and team work with all disciplines.
· Be aware of the responsibility of all employees and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.
· Be responsible for materials and equipment as directed by the manager in charge.
· Keep the Unit stores in a clean and tidy manner at all times.
· Order of various supplies from Stores Dept on instructions of manager in charge, if required
· Maintain satisfactory levels of sterile and non-sterile supplies and distribute as requested
· Handle and maintain supply of laundry
· Order and collect supplies from the Laboratory as required including blood bottles, specimen jars, etc.
· Report any incident or potential incident which may compromise the health and safety of patient/ clients / residents, staff or visitors and take appropriate action.
· Report any accidents, near misses to the person in charge and ensure completion of incident / near miss forms.
· Not undertake any task related to patient care for which he/she is not trained.
· Attend training courses as required e.g. CPR, Hygiene, HACCP, Fire Prevention etc.
· Participate in the development of a personal development plan in conjunction with a line manager.
· Cover annual leave
· Ensure trolleys are cleaned and stocked appropriately.
· Check and clean fridges, bottle warmers, etc.
· Be vigilant at all times and report any issues to the appropriate person.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
The Multi Task Attendant will:
· Attend staff meetings and contribute constructively to the smooth running of the Unit/Ward.
· Be mindful of and participate in cost control measures and environmental initiatives.
· Maintain accurate records as required.
In carrying out these duties the employee must ensure that effective safety procedures are in place to comply with the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act.
Staff must carry out their duties in a safe and responsible manner in line with the National Maternity Hospital Policy as set out in the appropriate department’s safety statement.
Note: The start and finish times of shifts may change to meet the service needs of the department and patients.
