The International Protection Appeals Tribunal is a statutorily independent body and exercises a quasi-judicial function under the International Protection Act 2015. The function of the International Protection Appeals Tribunal is to hear and determine appeals on negative recommendations made by an International Protection Officer concerning applications for international protection status in the State. The Tribunal also determines appeals under the European Union (Dublin System) Regulations 2018 and the European Communities (Reception Conditions) Regulations 2018-2021.

A competition is being held in order to establish a panel of suitably qualified individuals from which the Minister for Justice may appoint successful candidates to act as part time Members of the Tribunal, in order to carry out certain functions of the Tribunal. Each Member of the Tribunal appointed by the Minister for Justice in a part-time capacity shall hold office under a contract for services for a period of 5 years.

Candidates must have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a practising barrister or solicitor;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of EU and Irish international protection and human rights law and practice;
  • Excellent critical analysis skills, including the ability to research, assimilate, interpret and manage complex information.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 3pm on Thursday the 18 of January 2024.
