DESCRIPTION AND VISION OF CORLANN
Corlann West Region provide a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of Corlann is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, in line with best practice both nationally and internationally. Working in partnership with each person supported by Corlann, we aim to create opportunities for people supported by Corlann to have ordinary life experiences and to be closely connected to family and friends. We are committed to supporting people to live a life of their choosing.
Cruachan Adult Services provide a range of community-based services including day, residential, respite, community outreach, family support and a range of multidisciplinary support services. People are supported in day centres, supported employment, social and micro enterprises, training and education and these can be in groups or individualised. People are supported in residential settings in their own homes in the community individually and in groups. We wish to create opportunities for people who use our services to have valued social roles in their communities and to form friendships.

The Role:
The Team Leader has a pivotal role in managing the day to day delivery of services. The Team Leader will provide leadership and supervision to teams while ensuring the development of the service in line with national standards and best practice. The main responsibilities are to assist the Team Manager with the management of the services, such as – person centred planning in line with Personal Outcome Measures ethos and practice, resource management and staffing - including rosters, staff development, facilitating communication and professional leadership in order to ensure a good quality of life for the people supported. It is the Team Leader’s responsibility to ensure that the life of each person reflects the organisation’s core values:

Reporting/Responsible to:
Team Manager/Service Coordinator or delegate
Qualifications/Experience:
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition have:
(I) A relevant 3rd level qualification in Nursing and current Live Register Certificate from NMBI
OR
(II) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU. OR
(III) Hold a schedule 3 qualification (see below Note 1*)

(IV) Hold a comparable qualification recognised by Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU
OR
(V) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, (see below Note 2*) must submit proof of application for registration with the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU. The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant was received by the 30th November 2025.
And
• Hold an appropriate qualification in Health and Social Care Management (QQI Level 6) is a necessary requirement of the post. If the successful applicant does not hold such a qualification, a commitment to obtaining the qualification prior to taking up the post will be required.
• Previous experience of effectively managing a staff team and demonstrating proven ability to pro-actively lead, motivate, empower and achieve results through people is an advantage.
• A minimum of three 3 years’ post qualification experience, working with people with an Intellectual Disability is essential.
• Demonstrate a clear commitment to community integration and active citizenship for all people with disabilities with experience in the area of human rights and advocacy.
• Experience of working in the area of autism and behaviours of concern would be an advantage.
Skills:
• Candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership and communication and team working skills.
• Knowledge and experience managing people’s well-being using an evidence based approach to person centred planning e.g. Personal Outcome Measures.
• Knowledge and understanding of the National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities, the Health Act 2007 (Care and Support of Residents in Designated Centres for Persons (Children and Adults with Disabilities) Regulations 2013 and New Directions for Day Services.
• Must have the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and confidentiality, be creative and self-motivated, communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms and co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy
• A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads and use of your own car is an essential requirement.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
Working Hours:
Contracted hours will depend on the grade of the successful candidate - i.e. 78 hours a fortnight (SCL grade) or 75 hours a fortnight (CNM1 grade) rostered flexibly on a 7 day duty roster.
The Team leader will work as a frontline member of the team with protected time to carry out specific team leader duties.
In addition, a sleep-in and/or night duty commitment may be a requirement of posts in residential services for which the appropriate allowance will be paid.
Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported
Annual Leave:
Leave will be granted according to the agreed leave assigned to the grade of the successful candidates i.e. Social Care Leader or CNM1. Annual leave must be planned in advance with the Team Manager to ensure appropriate and adequate cover is provided for the service.
Remuneration:
Based on the salary scale attached to the grade of the successful candidates i.e. Social Care Leader or CNM1 (pro-rata for part-time).
Salary quoted is based on a 39 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous public sector service.
Tenure:
Permanent, Full-Time and Pensionable.
A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Team Leader appointments within Cruachan Services may be offered over the next 6 to 12 months.
Probation:
A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Specific Conditions:
• Staff must have a positive attitude towards working with persons with an intellectual disability and autism and help to ensure that they lead as normal and enjoyable a life as possible.
• Staff are required to establish and maintain relationships with adults with disabilities that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence and individuality.
Main duties and functions:
• Actively lead all staff members attached to the team, including taking responsibility for daily duty rosters, time keeping and attendance. Take responsibility for ensuring staff cover in the case of absenteeism. Adhere and follow the attendance management guidelines and provide support to team members following an absence. Maintain relevant records on all interactions with members of staff.
• Assist in formulating, implementing and evaluating service plans in co-operation with the wider management team, the multidisciplinary team and other team members.
• Ensure that all staff members treat all people supported as adults with rights and responsibilities and that the Personal Outcome Measures ethos and process is followed by all.
• Actively encourage and support keyworkers to achieve priority goals for people supported.
• Promote and facilitate community integration and liaison including advocacy, citizen advocacy and promoting and maintaining family contact for people supported by the services to the degree that they desire.
• Develop and foster good relationships with people supported by the services, work colleagues and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Maintain professional boundaries with families and key people involved with the people supported by the services.
• Ensure that appropriate records are kept to enable full reports on the people we support to be available to the multidisciplinary staff and senior management. Update OLIS, Personal Outcome Measures, AIRS and other databases in line with service policy.
• Be mindful of safeguarding vulnerable adults and report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Officer and to your line manager or delegate.
• Carry out Audits and training with the team as needed in areas such as Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Quarterly AIRS Audits, Flex, Complaints Audits and follow up on actions from New Directions Easi-Tool, HIQA inspections, where applicable and Provider Nominee Audits.
• Ensure strict confidentiality in all matters concerning people supported and the organisation and ensure all staff adhere to GDPR.
• Support the development and piloting of innovative and alternative models of Service delivery.
• Be an active member of the team working frontline with the people supported to achieve their outcomes and support them to develop to their full potential.
• Provide support, manage and resolve problems within the team when appropriate.
• Ensure that all incidents/accidents, medication errors and complaints are immediately reported to the Team Manager/Service Coordinator/Area Manager and provide follow up information in line with service policy. Ensure records relating to these are maintained in line with organisational policy and databases are kept up to-date.
• Ensure safekeeping of personal possessions of the people supported by the services and ensure accountability for all individual’s monies in line with the organisations policy on managing people supported by the services finances.
• Ensure a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the Services.
• In collaboration with the Team Manager/Service Coordinator/Area Manager ensure that all repairs to buildings and equipment are carried out promptly.
• Participate in managing all resources efficiently and effectively within agreed budget.
• Provide induction for all new staff assigned to the services as required and assign keyworkers in collaboration with the Team Manager/Service Coordinator.
• Operate within the policies and procedures of the Service in all aspects of your work.
• Be aware of and become familiar with fire drill procedures within the services i.e. fire detection, evacuation and firefighting.
• Be conscious of Health and Safety matters in the workplace and in particular ensure that all team members comply with Employee’s obligations as set out under Part 2, Section 13 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
• Avail of all training and continuous professional development opportunities to achieve the above objectives and keep abreast of changes in I.T.
• As the duties and responsibilities of any post in the Service are likely to change with the ongoing needs of the individuals, i.e. age, level of disability, Personal Outcome Measures, etc., staff are expected to have a high level of flexibility, and a willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to their work as the individuals needs demand.
• Perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned to him/her by the Team Manager/Service Coordinator Manager / Area Manager.
The role of the post holder will not be limited by reference to this Job Description. It is expected that the role will evolve as professional, structural and people supported demands change, with the post holder being expected to demonstrate flexibility skills that will facilitate this.
