Main Purpose of Job
The Technical & Facilities Assistant(s) will be responsible for supporting both the technical and facility aspects of events, performances, conferences, exhibitions, classes, and other activities at the venue.
As a scheduled Duty Technician, the postholder(s) will ensure the safe operation of events, assist with venue maintenance, and contribute to the overall smooth running and upkeep of the facility.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Technical & Event Operations- Serve as the scheduled Duty Technician, overseeing all technical and facility-related requirements for events, performances, and activities at the venue.
- Provide excellent customer service to visiting companies, audience members, hirers, and other users, ensuring a positive experience.
- Assist with the safe and efficient get-in, fit-up, strike, and get-out of productions.
- Operate sound and lighting systems as required during rehearsals, performances, and events.
- Carry out stage management duties and provide technical support to visiting companies, hirers, and community users, including unloading and loading of equipment.
- Support the setup, operation, and takedown of meetings, events, conferences, classes, exhibitions, and other venue activities.
- Ensure that all technical and facility assets are protected, properly maintained, and in working order.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised working environment, ensuring all areas are properly maintained.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, promoting safe working practices across all technical and facility operations.
- Secure the building when required, in accordance with venue protocols.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repair tasks to support the safe operation of the venue.
- Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of technical and general venue facilities, ensuring equipment and spaces are fit for purpose.
- Support venue-wide maintenance schedules, including undertaking building checks, inspections, and monitoring to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of technical and facility assets, assisting in the upkeep of relevant registers.
- Attend and undertake training as identified by management to support professional development and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide flexible support across both technical and facility operations, adapting to changing requirements as needed.
- Carry out other duties relevant to the technical and facility operations of the venue as required.
- Provide first aid cover and log incidents, accidents, and near misses in line with the Council’s procedures.
- Comply with all the Council’s policies and procedures, including the Employee Code of Conduct and the Employee and Councillor Working Relationship Protocol.
- Ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety at Work legislation in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety at Work Policy and all associated procedures and guidance, and be an advocate for high standards of Health and Safety performance.
- Promote the Council’s equal opportunities policies and avoid all forms of discrimination as an employer and service provider.
- Implement all Financial and Procurement policies and procedures.
- Comply with employee responsibilities in relation to all records held, created, or used as part of the Council’s business. All records, paper or electronic, are public records and accessible by the general public, with limited exceptions, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Environmental Regulations 2004, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Data Protection Act 2018.

- Be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation. The above list should not be seen as exhaustive, and the postholder will be expected to undertake other relevant duties as required.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of delivering technical support, e.g. sound and lighting.
- Knowledge of health and safety and venue operations.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
- Ability to grasp technical issues quickly with minimal instruction.
