Our maintenance staff play a key role within the organisations support structure working with school, college and centre management to maintain the highest standards of cleaning, upkeep and stewarding to assist in the running of the organisation. The purpose of this recruitment campaign is to fill a permanent General Operative vacancy in An Cosán Community Special School. An Cosán CSS will provide for the needs of students with autism and complex needs with a professional recommendation for a special school, in addition to students with moderate general learning disability and complex needs, from the beginning of Primary school up to eighteen years of age. Essential Requirements: Previous relevant experience of not less than two years’ experience in a relevant post. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: • Cleaning, washing and dusting of all operational areas within the school including toilets, offices, corridors, stairs, windows / glass and external areas including gardens, etc. Must be cognisant of COVID 19 regulations. • Gardening, including grass cutting. • Removing rubbish and waste materials and the safe storing of same pending removal from the premises. • Moving furniture, equipment as directed. • Carrying out messages and errands within the premises and to other centres as required, including collecting, distributing and delivering post. • Assisting porters, tradesmen and other maintenance staff as required. • Manning and controlling entrances / exits. • Stewarding and other sundry duties. • Operating all appropriate machinery relating to the grade. • Performing such other appropriate duties of a similar nature as may be instructed from time to time by City of Dublin ETB, Chief Executive, Principal or any other authorised officer. Pension payments will, however, be resumed on the ceasing of such employment or on the person's 60th birthday, whichever is the later, but on resumption, the pension will be based on the person's actual reckonable service as a teacher (i.e. the added years previously granted will not be taken into account in the calculation of the pension payment). An Cosán Community Special School will provide for the needs of students with autism and complex needs with a professional recommendation for a special school, in addition to students with moderate general learning disability and complex needs, with a professional recommendation for a special school, from the beginning of Primary school up to eighteen years of age. An Cosán Community Special School is a child-centred, co-educational, multi-denominational, publicly accountable school which strives to provide high quality education for every child attending. The new school will cater for an enrolment of up to 24 students when it is established and, on a phased basis, is expected to grow its capacity to provide up to 60 school places in the short to medium term, pending a new permanent school building being provided. As per Department of Education regulations, students will leave school at the end of the school year in which they reach the age of 18 years. To facilitate this age band, the range of classes extend from primary to post primary. Class grouping swill be based on a combination of age, appropriate peer groupings and the needs of each child. The school operates within the regulations as outlined by the Rules for National Schools and relevant circulars and directives issued by the Primary / Special Education sections of the Department of Education. The school is funded by grants from the Department of Education. Staffing allocations are in line with those set out by the Department of Education. Under the direction of the Patron, the school will be managed on an interim basis by a Single Manager pending the appointment of a Board of Management. The Board of Management will be made up of representatives of the Patron, parents, school staff and the community. Desirable Requirements • Previous training, instructing, or teaching experience is desirable. • Applicants should: o Hold or be willing to attend a preparatory training programme to acquire a training qualification. This will be provided to successful candidates as part of the onboarding process. o Be enthusiastic about apprenticeship with strong communication skills and the ability to engage with apprentices. o Have experience of mentoring / assessing apprentices on-the-job would be a distinct advantage however ongoing mentoring will be provided by experienced Instructors on-site. Key Duties and Responsibilities: The main duties and responsibilities listed below are not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office: • Instruct the trainees in all aspects of domestic and industrial Electrical work. • Communicate ideas graphically through technical drawing and use a range of mathematical skills and tools in a variety of engineering sectors. • Prepare lesson plans, course notes, presentational material and handouts as appropriate. • Schedule, conduct, correct and mark assessment/tests in accordance with the relevant assessment programmes and carry out associated administrative tasks. • Provide appropriate additional instruction and schedule, conduct, correct and mark repeat assessments in accordance with the prescribed referral procedures. • Maintain prescribed course records. • Supervise participants and ensure that correct methods, quality standards and safety procedures are observed. • Supervise participants in respect of their timekeeping, attendance, behaviour and general application of the participants of the course. • Ensure adequate security of tools, equipment, machines and materials located in the training area. • Ensure that equipment and machines are maintained in accordance with the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule. • Plan and ensure the timely delivery of all course material and non-capital tools and equipment. • Raise requests for the purchase and supply of course material and non-capital tools and equipment. • Ensure that course materials are used in an economical and cost-effective manner. • Use new technology as appropriate, to assist in delivering and administering training. • Prepare and issue progress reports to the employer for their apprentice(s). • Undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time, including delivery of training on other courses as appropriate. Terms & Conditions of Appointment • The appointment will be subject to the sanction of the Chief Executive. • Any offer is subject to the receipt of two satisfactory references. • For the purposes of satisfying the requirements as to health it will be necessary for the successful candidate before they are appointed, to undergo at City of Dublin ETB’s expense, a medical examination by a qualified practitioner nominated by City of Dublin ETB. • External work may not be undertaken without the prior consent of City of Dublin ETB. • The person appointed to the post will be required to contribute to the relevant Superannuation Scheme. • City of Dublin ETB reserves the right to transfer as the needs of the scheme dictate. • The appointment will have a probationary period, details of which will be stipulated in the contract of employment. Termination: The appointment will be terminated by one month’s notice in writing on either side. Exclusions: Candidates should note that persons who have taken part in public service early retirement schemes including the following are not eligible to take part in this competition: Incentivised Scheme for Early Retirement (ISER): It is a condition of the Incentivised Scheme for Early Retirement (ISER) as set out in the Department of Finance Circular 12/09 that retirees, under that Scheme, are debarred from applying for another position in the same employment or the same sector. Therefore, such retirees may not apply for this position. Department of Health and Children Circular (7/2010): The Department of Health Circular 7/2010 dated 1 November 2010 introduced a Targeted Voluntary Early Retirement (VER) Scheme and Voluntary Redundancy Schemes (VRS). It is a condition of the VER scheme that persons availing of the scheme will not be eligible for re-employment in the public health sector or in the wider public service or in a body wholly or mainly funded from public funds. The same prohibition on re-employment applies under the VRS, except that the prohibition is a period of 7 years, after which time any re-employment will require the approval of the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform. Persons who availed of either of these schemes are not eligible to take part in this competition. Declaration: Applicants will be required to declare whether they have previously availed of a Public Service scheme of incentivised early retirement, including schemes not specifically mentioned above. Applicants will also be required to declare any entitlements to a Public Service pension benefit (in payment or preserved) from any other Public Service employment and/or where they have received a payment-in lieu in respect of service in any Public Service employment. Citizenship Requirements: Candidates should note that eligibility to compete for posts is open to citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) or to non-EEA nationals with a valid work permit. The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union along with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Swiss citizens under EU agreement may also apply.
