To take care of the premises and contents and to prevent as far as possible, any damage to the structure, furniture, fittings and equipment. 2. To be responsible for the opening and closing of the buildings as required. 3. Ensure that the School buildings are safe and secure at the conclusion of classes, examinations or functions. 4. To keep the School premises, furniture and equipment secure. 5. To keep the School premises, furniture and fittings in a clean condition (this includes bathrooms on a continual basis throughout the day in accordance with requirements of the H.S.E./Environmental Health Officer. 6. To supervise canteen area during meal times. 7. To keep in a clean condition all glass doors, windows, etc., and to carry out painting of walls, woodwork and window frames as directed by the School Principal / Line Managers. 8. To see to the heating requirements of the building and safeguard the heating and water pipes during the cold period of the year. 9. To keep in safe custody the keys of all rooms in the building and to ensure that no unauthorised person has access to any part of the building 10. When night classes, examinations or School functions are being held, the Caretaker will be obliged to be on duty half an hour before the start of such classes or functions and have rooms in readiness for class. 11. To set out and transfer as required, class materials, equipment and furniture, including preparation for Group Meetings and other after School events. 12. To give such assistance as may be required outside the School building as directed by the School Principal / Line Managers. 13. To keep the School grounds in good order, including mowing, weeding, strimming and maintenance of paths, parking areas, and all access routes. 14. To open and close the School as directed by the School Principal / Line Managers. To control the entry of students to and their exit from the School and have all rooms ready for activities at least half an hour before the official time of commencing. 15. To note and arrange for the receipt of furniture, equipment, food supplies, fuel, and other materials for general use. 16. To perform such similar duties as may be required and generally to carry out such duties as may be required from time to time by the ETB, the Chief Executive, School Principal / Line Managers. 17. To complete relevant documentation as required under Health and Safety legislation. 18. To work in compliance with the School’s Safety Statement. To carry out any other duties appropriate to the position. This job description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him / her from time to time by the CE and to contribute to the development of the post while in the role. The Office This is a permanent whole time contract. The normal working week is a 39 hours five-day week basis excluding breaks. However, the position of Caretaker may involve additional hours in excess of the standard working week, without additional remuneration. The holder of the office shall not engage in any gainful occupation, other than as an employee of MSLETB, to such an extent as to impair the performance of his or her duties as an employee of MSLETB or in any occupation which might conflict with the interests of MSLETB or which might be inconsistent with discharge of his or her duties as a MSLETB Officer. Probation The following provision shall apply: (a) There shall be a period after such appointments take effect during which such persons shall hold the position on probation; (b) Such period shall be one year but the Chief Executive may at his or her discretion extend such period; (c) Such persons shall cease to hold the position at end of the period of probation unless during such period the Chief Executive has certified that the service of such persons is satisfactory. Salary The salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. Holders of the office shall pay to MSLETB any fees or other monies (other than their inclusive salary) payable to or received by them by virtue of their office or in respect of any services which they are required by or under any enactment to perform. Salary scale and entry point on this scale will be determined in accordance with Circulars issued by the Department of Educatio. Salary per Circular 0035/2024. Rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy. Annual Leave The annual leave allowance for the position of Caretaker is 22 days. This allowance is subject to the usual conditions regarding the granting of annual leave in MSLETB, is based on a fiveday week and is exclusive of the usual public holidays. Sick Leave Pay during properly certified sick absence, provided there is no evidence of permanent disability for service, will apply on a pro-rata basis, in accordance with the provisions of the sick leave circulars. From the 1st January 2020, MSL ETB has introduced revised procedures in regard to the processing of illness benefit deductions for all employees who pay Class A PRSI. When an employee who pays Class A PRSI is absent on sick leave (certified, critical and pregnancyrelated at full and half rate of pay) for more than five days, they must also submit a DEASP Illness Benefit Claim (IB1 Form) to DEASP at the address referenced on the form. Illness Benefit payments will be issued to the employees own account by DEASP. Subject to sufficient entitlement under the relevant Sick Leave Scheme, the employee will continue to be paid salary as normal by the ETB, less a deduction which will be made directly from the employee’s salary in line with standard illness benefit payable by DEASP. Location/Base The successful candidate will be initially assigned to Coola Post Primary School, Co Sligo. Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board reserves the right to assign you to any other location or base that is under the control of Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board, as the need arises. Any change in location or base by Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board will not be deemed as redeployment as provided for under the Public Service Agreements Start Date MSLETB shall require a person to whom an appointment is offered to take up such appointment within a period of not more than 6 weeks and if they fail to take up the appointment within such period or such long period as the MSLETB in its absolute discretion may determine, MSLETB shall not appoint them. Business Travel When absent from home and headquarters on duty appropriate travelling expenses and subsistence allowances will be paid subject to the normal Civil Service regulations. Superannuation Contributions Persons who become pensionable officers of MSLETB who are liable to pay Class D rate of PRSI contribution will be required, in respect of their superannuation, to contribute to MSLETB at the rate of 5% of their pensionable remuneration. Persons who become pensionable officers of MLETB, who are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to MSLETB at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (I.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributory pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant or qualified children) All person who become pensionable officers of MSLETB are required, in respect of Spouses and Children Contributory Pension Scheme 1986, to contribute to MSLETB at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration or net pensionable remuneration, whichever is relevant and in accordance with the terms of the Scheme. Person who become pensionable officers of MSLETB for the first time on or after 1st January 2013 are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution and are required in respect of superannuation to contribute at the rate of 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributory pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant or qualified children) plus 3% of pensionable pay. Retirement Effective from 1st January 2013, the Single Public Service Scheme applies to all first-time new entrants to the public service, as well as to former public servants returning to the public service after a break of more than 26 weeks. Retirement age is set initially at 66 years; this will rise in step with statutory changes in the State Pension Contributory (SPC) age to 67 years in 2021 and 68 years in 2028. Compulsory retirement age will be 70. For appointee who are deemed not to be “new entrants” as defined in the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004, the minimum retirement age is 60 and the maximum retirement age is 65. However, the Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act 2018, allows public servants who joined the public service before 1 April 2004 to work to a compulsory retirement age of 70. For Class A “new entrants” as defined in the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004 the minimum retirement age is 65 with no maximum retirement age. Pension Accrual A 40-year limit on total service that can be counted towards pension where a person has been a member of more than one existing public service pension scheme would apply. This 40-year limit, which is provided for in the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012 came into effect on 28th July 2012. This may have implication for any appointee who has acquired pension rights in a previous public service employment. Pension Abatement If the appointee has previously been employed in the Civil or Public Service and is in receipt of a pension from the Civil or Public Service or where a Civil/Public pension comes into payment during his/her re-employment that pension will be subject to abatement in accordance with Section 52 of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012. Incentivised Scheme for Early Retirement (ISER) It is a condition of the Incentivised Scheme for Early Retirement (ISER) as set out in Department of Finance Circular 12/09 that retiree, under that scheme, are debarred from applying for another position in the same employment or the same sector. Almost 2,000 event-based roles are now up for grabs following the launch of a nationwide recruitment drive to fill positions at festivals, gigs, football, and hurling matches being held across the country over the summer months. (c) Army (Engineer Corps) Graduate Candidates must have successfully completed: a. a Bachelor Degree programme at Level 8 or 9 of the National Framework of Qualifications in either Engineering, Architecture, or other Building Construction related discipline, accredited for membership by Engineers Ireland, Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland or other relevant professional body, OR b. a professional qualification equivalent to one of the foregoing awarded by the relevant professional body. Where an applicant has a Level 8 or higher NFQ qualification not specified above, they may seek a determination that the qualification meets the requirements subject to submitting suitable evidence of equivalence to Defence Forces Recruitment Section, Defence Forces Headquarters, Department of Defence, Station Road, Newbridge, W12 AD93, for the Director of Engineering’s determination. (d) Army (Ordnance Corps) Graduate Candidates must have successfully completed one of the following Bachelor Degree programmes at Level 8, of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ): Bachelor of Science, Physics and/or Chemistry, or Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering, Optical Electronics or MechElectronics Where an applicant has a Level 8 or higher NFQ qualification not specified above, they may seek a determination that the qualification meets the requirements subject to submitting suitable evidence of equivalence to Defence Forces Recruitment Section, Defence Forces Headquarters, Department of Defence, Station Road, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, W12 AD93, for the Director of Ordnance’s determination. 3. MEDICAL AND PHYSICAL STANDARDS Candidates must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect, abnormality, physiological condition or history of serious illness likely to interfere with the efficient performance of their duties. The following are the minimum physical requirements: a. Height A candidates’ height will be determined at the Medical Examination – see Para. 8. Weight and chest measurements must be in keeping with height and age. Min. height: 157.48cm. Note: BMI will be determined at Stage 2, the Assessment Phase of the competition b. Vision Colour vision must be normal. Both eyes must be free from disfiguring or incapacitating abnormality and free from acute or chronic disease. There must be no evidence of squint or latent squint. The eligibility of applicants who have had previous incisional or laser treatment to correct visual acuity will be determined at the Medical Examination. Please see Annex C for further information. Vision must be not be less than 6/18 in each eye, corrected to not less than 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other. c. Dental Candidates must be free from any serious periodontal disease and possess teeth to a specific standard, which is not less than the equivalent of eleven over eleven natural teeth functionally opposed. In certain circumstances, artificial teeth may be acceptable. d. Hearing A good standard of unaided hearing is essential. Candidates will be required to undergo an audiometric test at which: (1) The sum of the hearing threshold at 1,2,3, 4 and 6 kHz should not exceed the age and gender related warning levels contained in the "Guidelines on Hearing Checks and Audiometry Regulations 2007", issued by the Health and Safety Authority. (2) Candidates under 25 years of age must be able to hear all measured pure tones up to and including 8 kHz at 20dB in each ear. Candidates aged 25 and older must be able to hear all measured pure tones up to and including 8 kHz at 25dB in each ear. Candidates must also be free from acute or chronic ear disorders. Candidates are advised to avoid all sources of loud noise or music for a period of 48 hours prior to this audiometric test, as exposure to such noise may adversely affect the results of the test. N.B. Candidates must satisfy these various medical and physical standards and requirements in order to remain in the Competition. In addition, successful Candidates will be required to undertake compulsory random drug testing throughout their career in the Defence Force in accordance with Defence Force Regulation A7. Stage 1 – Online Psychometric Testing Stage 1 of the selection procedure involves tests that measure a range of skills and qualities that are necessary in the job. These tests provide a consistent and suitable way of screening candidates at the initial stage of the selection campaign. These tests are designed to identify the most suitable people to go forward to the next stage of the Cadetship Competition. The tests have been designed so that they are fair to all applicants and are objectively scored. Candidates will be required to complete an unsupervised psychometric test online. Candidates will be supplied with psychometric test familiarisation material in order to introduce them to the format of the tests. Candidates will be required to complete the unsupervised online psychometric test within the timeframe specified by the Defence Force. Candidates should pay particular attention to ensuring that the contact details specified on their application are correct. Candidates who have attained the requisite score in the unsupervised online psychometric test, at Stage 1 will be required to attend for a subsequent supervised online psychometric test at Stage 2. Note: If a candidate fails to meet the minimum standard at Stage 1, they will not be permitted to proceed to the next stage of the competition. Stage 2 – The Assessment Phase Army, Army (Equitation School), Army (Engineer Corps) and Army (Ordnance Corps) candidates who have attained the requisite score at Stage 1 of the competition, will be required to attend at the Defence Force Training Centre, Curragh, Co. Kildare, for the Assessment Phase (possible overnight duration) of the Competition. The Assessment Phase will consist of the following: Physical Fitness Test: In order to qualify for a Cadetship, candidates will be required to pass a physical fitness test, which is designed to assess their potential to undergo the rigours of military training. Candidates must attain the standard laid down in order to proceed in the competition. A candidate must complete this test as part of their cadetship application; this test is not valid for any other Cadetship applications or other Defence Force competitions. (See Annex ‘D’ for details of the test and suggested training programme). Supervised online Psychometric Test. If a candidate’s performance at a supervised test is outside the expected scoring range from their unsupervised test at Stage 1, they may be excluded from subsequent stages of the selection process. Group Assessment: Candidates will be required to participate in a group assessment. Realistic Job Preview: This involves a familiarisation visit to the Cadet School at the Military College, Curragh, Co. Kildare and informal interaction with instructional staff and Cadets All components will be conducted on the one occasion. Note: If a candidate fails to meet the required standard at the Assessment phase, they will not be permitted to proceed to the next stage of the competition. Online Personality Questionnaire. Candidates who have attained the requisite score at Stage 2 of the competition will be sent an online personality questionnaire to be completed within the timeframe specified by the Defence Force prior to attending for interview. Note: In addition to the above, candidates for Cadetships in the Army Equitation School will be required to undergo and pass a practical equestrian test before attending for Stage 3 - The Interview. If a candidate fails to meet minimum standards of equestrian test, they will not be permitted to proceed to the next stage of the competition. This is a scored test standardised to the ‘Showjumping Ireland National 5 Bar Assessment’ for young riders. The applicant’s score will form part of their overall score in the cadetship competition. Stage 3 - The Interview Successful candidates will be invited to the Cadet School, Military College, Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare to attend a competency based interview, where they will be required to demonstrate competency in a selection of the following areas: • Planning and Organising • Decision Making and Problem Solving • Working with Others • Communication • Leadership and Supervising • Personal Motivation and Discipline • Resilience • Information Handling In the competency based interview, candidates will be asked to give examples from their own experiences of life, school, university, hobbies, work, pastimes etc., to demonstrate evidence in several of the above areas. Candidates who fail any of the competencies at Interview will be deemed unsuccessful in the competition. Feedback is available upon request. All requests for feedback must be received within 3 months of issuance of the individuals result.
