Seasonal Drivers
SECTION 1: THE ROLE Cork County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which temporary seasonal vacancies for Drivers- North Cork may be filled. The person/s appointed will work under the direction and control of the Plant/Stores Superintendent or other officer designated by the Director of Services or the Chief Executive. SECTION 2: DUTIES The duties may include but are not limited to the following and the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office. The person employed shall carry out, under the direction of their Line manager/Fleet Manager or Supervisor, where necessary, such duties as may from time to time be assigned to them, including: • The driving and/or operation of any plant including specialised plant in any part of the County under the direction of their assigned Yard. The successful candidate may be required to undertake and successfully complete further training in the use of such specialised vehicles as instructed by their supervisor/Fleet Manager. • Participation in the Council's Winter Salting Roster System and the Council's Emergency On-Call System, as a requirement of this position. • Other works involved on site, as part of general crew or site work as required either on various Council mobile sites, fixed sites or in the machinery yards. • Duties will require drivers to work in various types’ environments including those with hot tar, bitumen, concrete, road construction materials and other chemical substances. • A driver may be required to provide cover/support to locations other than their base and this will be advised by their line manager. Allowances and travel will be paid if deemed appropriate by management. SECTION 3: ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA / QUALIFICATIONS 1. Character Each candidate must be of good character. 2. License Requirements • It is essential to hold a current full European “C” Driving Licence free from endorsement with a current Driver Qualification Card (CPC). • Hold a valid Safe Pass Card. 3. Health Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 4. Age Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant within the meaning of the Public Services Superannuation Act, 2004. A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 70 years of age. 5. Transport When required to do so, holders of the office shall hold a full driving licence for Class B Vehicles and shall drive a motor car in the course of their duties and for this purpose provide and maintain a car to the satisfaction of the local authority. SECTION 4: TENURE The position is temporary seasonal and fulltime. The post is pensionable. This panel may be formed to fill temporary seasonal positions. Permanent vacancies are filled from a Permanent Driver panel. SECTION 5: SALARY The Salary scale for the post is: €720.43 – €724.06 – €727.68 – €729.67 – €729.67 – €729.67 – €729.67 – €730.85 – €732.93 – €735.08 - €737.23 - €739.38 - €741.56. Entry point to this scale will be determined in accordance with Circulars issued by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. In accordance with Departmental Circular letter EL 02/2011, a person who is not a serving local authority employee on or after 1st January 2011, will enter the scale for the position at a minimum point. Rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy. SECTION 6: LOCATION OF POST The positions will be based initially in Newberry Machinery Yard, Mallow. Holders of the office shall reside in the district in which their duties are to be performed or within a reasonable distance thereof. SECTION 7: WORKING HOURS The successful candidate will be required to work 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday: Monday – Thursday: 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Friday: 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. You may be required to work overtime outside of normal working hours as required by his/her Supervisor. The Role: The Asset Operations function forms the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards as well as managing the majority of operational expenditure. The Asset Operations function has responsibility for operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning and standard operating procedures for Water and Wastewater operations both nationally and regionally, ensuring that value for money and customer service is delivered. The Water and Wastewater Operations team is responsible for the regional delivery of water and wastewater operational services through the operation, inspection, maintenance & repair of the treatment and network assets. The Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator will have a remit over a geographical area and is responsible for the operation of treatment processes on the assigned treatment plants and carrying out routine maintenance activities on assets for an area, across a variety of sites as and when requested, in accordance with the task schedule. The Water/Wastewater Network Operator has a remit over a geographical area and is responsible for supporting the operation of the water and wastewater network in order to deliver consistent customer service and carry out routine maintenance activities on the network asset base.
