This is an exciting opportunity for the Senior Psychologist to contribute to a well-established Psycho-oncology department in St Lukes Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) @ St Luke’s Hospital, Rathgar, with the possibility of working in our two other centres across the Network. The main focus is to enhance, under the scope of psychological practice, the cancer patient’s experience, and the quality of life and health outcomes of cancer patients (both adult and children) and their caregivers, by addressing their emotional, psychological, cognitive and social needs. The Psycho-Oncology service provides a comprehensive psychological assessment and therapeutic intervention service for both adults and children and relatives at St. Luke’s hospital. The vast majority of referrals to the Psycho-oncology Service are in relation to any or a combination of the following: a) mental health difficulties including, but not exclusive to: mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, self-harm and suicidal behaviour, and b) oncology specific needs, including adjustment to the diagnosis and treatment, body image difficulties, treatment compliance, sleep difficulties and fatigue and sexual difficulties. The successful candidate will provide a specialised Psycho-Oncology service, in line with service plans and objectives and within established professional standards, guidelines and policy. They will work closely with the members of the Psycho-Oncology Service and the wider multi-disciplinary team and will report to the Principal Counselling Psychologist. There is currently one senior psychologist whole-time permanent post available in the Psychology Department, St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at St. Luke’s Hospital, Rathgar (SLROC SLH) with the possibility of working in our two other centres across the Network. Established in 2010, St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) operates across three sites – St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at St. Luke’s Hospital (SLRON SLH), St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at St James’s Hospital (SLRON SJH) and St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at Beaumont Hospital (SLRON BH). The main patient groups who require SLT service are patients with cancer related to head & neck, brain and CNS, lung, upper GI and any cancer diagnosis in the late stages. There is significant scope to further develop SLT services such as Videoflursocopy in SLRON SLH. This post is based in SLRON SLH and the successful candidate’s primary responsibility is delivery of SLT services on this site. However, it is essential that the successful candidate works closely with SLT services across SLRON in order to assist the HSCP Manager to achieve an equitable service for patients and to develop a cohesive approach to service development and delivery.
