Craft Stonemason role based at Charles Fort, Kinsale up for grabs

Fancy being a Craft Stonemason and Stonecutter based at Charles Fort, Kinsale, Co. Cork? The Office of Public Works (OPW) is currently accepting applications.

That’s right. Not only does the successful candidate get to work in a fulfilling, creative role, they will also have a historic 17th century bastion fort as their workplace. The role is based at Charles Fort and the stonemason will also be expected to travel to other areas of the district.

But given that other properties under the control of the OPW National Monuments Service in the region include Barryscourt Castle, Mallow Castle and the Rock of Cashel, that doesn’t seem like much of a hardship.

The pay is not bad either - between €643.52 and €790.78 per week, depending on experience and whether the candidate is an existing civil servant.

The position is open to qualified and experienced candidates with an advanced certificate in Craft Stonecutting and Stonemasonry or Craft Brick and Stonelaying or equivalent.

For anyone who does meet the requirements, you have until September 12 to apply.
