Activities Coordinator – Ave Maria Nursing Home

Reports to: Nursing Home Manager / Director of Nursing

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Job Overview

Client is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Activities Coordinator to plan, deliver and evaluate a varied programme of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for residents. This role is central to enhancing residents’ quality of life, promoting independence, and supporting their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and deliver a diverse range of daily activities tailored to residents’ interests, needs, and abilities.
  • Encourage and motivate residents to participate, fostering social interaction and inclusion.
  • Coordinate group and one-to-one sessions, including arts & crafts, music, gentle exercise, games, reminiscence therapy, outings, and seasonal events.
  • Liaise with residents, families, and staff to ensure activities reflect preferences and cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintain accurate records of residents’ participation and progress.
  • Work closely with the care team to support holistic, person-centred care.
  • Organise and host celebrations, entertainment, and community involvement events.
  • Evaluate and adapt the activities programme to meet changing needs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience in activity coordination, recreation, or a caregiving role (desirable but not essential).
  • Training in care of the elderly, therapeutic recreation, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a warm and engaging, personality.
  • Creative, energetic, and organised, with the ability to motivate and involve residents.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in older people.

  • Confidence in engaging individuals and groups in enjoyable activities.
  • Strong organisational skills and adaptability.
  • Team player who collaborates effectively with nursing and care staff.
  • Respectful and sensitive to residents’ dignity and preferences.
