The Quality & Patient Safety Lead will provide senior clinical leadership and strategic direction for quality, patient safety, clinical governance, risk management and continuous improvement across the organisation.

The post holder will support the Director of Nursing & Quality in ensuring that quality and patient safety are embedded within the organisation’s culture, governance arrangements, systems and day-to-day delivery of care. The post holder will provide leadership, direction and oversight to the Quality & Patient Safety Team, including line management and effective coordination of its functions and services.

The post holder will provide expert leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the organisation’s quality and patient safety framework. This will include oversight of learning from incidents, complaints, audits, reviews, patient and service-user experience, and other sources of quality and safety intelligence, ensuring that learning is translated into measurable and sustained improvements in care, outcomes and service delivery.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications:

• Registration in the relevant Division of the Register of Nurses kept by Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or be entitled to be so registered
• Relevant post-registration qualification at postgraduate level in one or more of:
• Quality Improvement
• Patient Safety
• Clinical Governance
• Healthcare Management
• Risk Management
• Healthcare Quality
• Clinical Effectiveness
• Hold a full clean driving license and have access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role

Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years management experience in healthcare
• Working at a senior level in leading quality and practice improvements
• Experience of managing and working collaboratively with stakeholders
• Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
• Experience of leading change
• IT skills to include, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to present and interpret data

Desirable Requirements

Qualifications:

• Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
• Formal qualification in quality improvement, patient safety or risk management.

Experience:

• Experience within specialist palliative care, older persons care or another complex healthcare environment.
• Experience of external regulatory or accreditation processes.
• Experience of developing organisational quality dashboards.
• Experience of incident investigation methodologies.
• Experience of leading multidisciplinary improvement programmes.
