Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the post will include, under the direction of the CE / AEO / Director of FET of CMETB and in accordance with the overall plan for the service approved by the Further Education and Training Board;

  • Planning, development and management of the Adult Literacy service under the direction of the CE / AEO / Director of FET/Regional Literacy co-ordinator in accordance with the overall plan for the service approved by the local Further Education and Training Board and CMETB
  • Management and co-ordination of a range of Adult Literacy programmes to include ESOL, Skills for Work, Adult Literacy, DEIS, Apprentice Support and Co-operation hours programmes.
  • Carry out initial screening and outline the tuition options available to students in the Adult Literacy Service
  • Carry out initial assessments on potential learners and match one to one students with appropriate adult educators/tutors/classes
  • Supporting, developing, and managing tutors and learners.
  • Overseeing CIDs for the service and where necessary development of new, innovative programmes to respond to local needs and to honour CID entitlements.
  • Liaise with QA in relation to new programmes and documentation for PAC re same.
  • Managing and supporting the adult education assessment and certification processes and procedures, as per the requirements of the appropriate certifying body
  • Maintaining and updating the relevant Management Information Systems, as per CMETB, Solas, ETBI, ESF & DES requirements, e.g. PLSS, FARR, DCS, QBS, P2P
  • Developing service to ensure it supports attainment of targets in Solas strategic performance agreement
  • Supporting the development and roll out of quality assurance initiatives including self-evaluation processes.
  • Acting as a support, if required, on matters relating to FET in general and adult literacy in particular
  • Promoting the literacy service and/or FET through networking, raising awareness, and publicity.
  • Enhancing own expertise through training, development, and networking with relevant bodies and fora, e.g. NALA
  • Liaising with relevant voluntary and statutory bodies, including the literacy referral networks.
  • Liaising with Regional Literacy Co-ordinator in relation to planning and response to needs/gaps identified locally.

 

Any other duties appropriate to the needs of the local scheme as may be assigned by the CE / AEO / Director of FET for the effective and efficient management of resources.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years working in FET and/or Adult Literacy.

Qualifications

Relevant third level qualification

NALA/WIT National Certificate in Training & Development (Adult Basic Education Management) or equivalent Adult Education Qualification as approved by the Department. An appropriate period of time (5 years) should be allowed to persons unable to access the specific qualifications at this time.

Other Relevant Experience

Education management, Financial Management, Management of Volunteers and Participation in Adult Literacy In-Service Training or other equivalent education/ training experience in adult, youth or community work.

Applicants must have own car and full, clean licence and have access to own transport.
