Contract info: Commencing 13th July 2026. 12 month contract.
The Mater University Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, is pleased to announce the opening for this upcoming year’s funded Advanced Heart Failure Fellowship commencing July 2026.
The Advanced Heart Failure service is a rapidly evolving National service with 3 Consultants and a permanent rotation by cardiology registrars/SpRs alongside the fellowship post. It is an established fellowship which incorporates all aspects of the care of heart failure patients through the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease with a primary focus on advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, invasive and non-invasive hemodynamics, temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support devices including IABP, Impella, Centrimag L and RVADs, durable HM 3 LVADs, and assessment for and post operative and longitudinal care of, heart transplant patients. The Advanced HF Fellow will take a leadership role in the Advanced HF team in liaison with multiple other services for the optimum care of the complex HF patient including ICU and Cardiothoracics and participate in multiple MDTs. The role also involves the diagnosis and expert management of specific cardiomyopathies including those for which the Mater is a National referral site including amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, peri-partum and other cardio-obstetrics, inherited cardiomyopathies and cardio-oncology together with participation in the multidisciplinary care of patients with heart failure in the setting of complex heart disease including pulmonary hypertension and ACHD. Candidates will as part of the fellowship become expert in the assessment and interpretation of invasive hemodynamic monitoring, right heart catheterisation and endomyocardial biopsy and be able to go on a specified number of donor heart retrieval runs. Regular participation and leadership in teaching is included and multiple research opportunities are available and encouraged. There is a very modest general cardiology on call commitment. Given its entire spectrum, this fellowship will prepare the candidate for all heart failure related Consultant posts.
