Purpose of the Role:

The National Model of Care for Neonatal Services (HSE, 2015) envisaged the opening of an 18-bed NICU in the new children’s hospital staffed by a full nursing team, including ANPs in Neonatology.

These posts will be committed to the development of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at CHI as the service ramps up to the new National Children’s Hospital and expands its nursing workforce. It is a key step in building a team to deliver neonatal intensive care nursing. The new children’s hospital forms part of the National Model of Care for Paediatric Healthcare Services in Ireland (HSE, 2016), in support of the delivery of safe and appropriate care to paediatric patients from birth.

Essential Criteria:

  • Be a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Neonatology) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

and

  • Be a registered nurse prescriber.

and

  • Have undertaken or agree to undertake the Certificate in Ionising Radiation Prescribing, within an agreed timeframe.

and

  • Have a Master’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing or a Master’s Degree which is relevant, or applicable, to the advanced field of practice.

and

  • Have clinical experience at an advanced level in care of the surgical neonate.

and

  • Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
