Job Description Post Title: Arborist Apprenticeship Coordinator

Grade: Community Education Facilitator

Initial Location: GRETB Training Centre

Capacity: Fixed Term Contract, 2 years

Reporting to: Director of Further Education and Training (FET) and FET Senior Management Team

Initial Headquarters/Duties:

The post holder will be located in GRETB.

Successful post holder(s) may be transferred within the organisation to allow for the allocation of additional duties, as and when required, which may include the reassignment to other duties where necessary.

The Position:

The Arborist Apprenticeship Coordinator will be responsible, under the direction and guidance of the Director of Further Education & Training and FET Senior Management team for the management of the virtual learning platform, operational delivery, stakeholder engagement, promotion, administration and quality assurance of the National Apprenticeship in Arboriculture.

Duties and Responsibilities ·

  • To represent GRETB: - in leading, developing and providing, the National Apprenticeship in Arboriculture;
  • Participate in employer engagement activities including, establishing and maintaining effective links with employers and the recruitment of employers and apprentices for the National Apprenticeship in Arboriculture;
  • Business development of the apprenticeship through marketing and promotion through various platforms;
  • Project management of the operational phase of the apprenticeship;
  • Liaising and working closely with the GRETB Area Training Manager;
  • Working closely with the Lead Instructor/Academic Supervisor to ensure that appropriately qualified instructors are available to deliver all of the prescribed modules;
  • Manage the development and production of blended learning resources, course content and the creation of assessments in keeping with the validated programme and module learning outcomes;
  • Liaising and cooperating with the appointed GRETB QA Officer ensuring that all of the Quality Assurance procedures as agreed with QQI as part of the Validation process are adhered too;
  • Ensuring that all the necessary resources and facilities are available for the operational delivery of the National Apprenticeship in Arboriculture;
  • Ensuring that all learner activities “on the job, off the job and on the virtual learning platforms” are supported throughout through the apprenticeship journey;
  • Register learners in each training centre at the beginning of Year 1;
  • Maintain positive collaborative relations with all stakeholders;
  • Participate in annual course/calendar planning;
  • Work closely with the network of Authorised Officers throughout the country;
  • Act as sectary to the National Programme Board, National Exam Board and Consortium Steering Group;
  • Generate and collect such reports as necessary for GRETB, the National Programme Board, The Consortium Steering Group, National Examination Board and the RPL Board;
  • Participate on various apprenticeship boards and forum as required;
  • Such other duties as may be specified by management within GRETB.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

A qualification at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications or its equivalent, and/or significant relevant work experience; Third level qualification(s) in relevant discipline(s) commensurate with this role would be an advantage.

Skills & Experience:

  • A high level of knowledge and expertise in thearea of Further Education Training;
  • Experience/Knowledge of the Arboricultural industry an advantage
  • Business development experience
  • Experience of promotional planning through social media
  • Experience of implementing and administering FET programmes;
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in designing and developing resources and content for education and training programmes;
  • Excellent motivating, interpersonal and team-working skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent ICT and administration skills;
  • Industry experience would be beneficial;
  • Successful applicant will have a full driving licence and access to a car and be willing to work flexibly outside of normal working hours as required.

Conditions of Service Terms of Appointment: This post is a fixed term 2 year position on the Community Education Facilitator (CEF) scale.


New Entrants: €41,488- €65,221

Pre 01/01/2011 entrants: €45,923- €65,221.


As per DES guidelines, new appointees who are entering this grade for the first time will start at the minimum point of the scale.

Incremental credit may only apply, if, immediately prior to appointment, the appointee is already a serving Civil or Public Servant.

Rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.

Starting Salary is not subject to negotiation

Hours of work:

A 35 hour week is in operation. Attendance will be required during normal ETB office hours and at such other times as are necessary for the delivery of the duties of the post.

Attendance outside of normal office hours will be by prior agreement with the Director of FET/ Adult Education Officer as will the offsetting of such attendance against normal office hour’s attendance. Hours may be adjusted from time to time under relevant Public Sector Agreements.

Annual leave:

The Annual Leave entitlement for this post is 35 days.
