SMH has a research partnership with UCD and runs QQI accredited programmes of education up to and including Honours Degree Level through its Open Training College.
JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to undertake timely, clinically informed nursing assessments for all new referrals at the request of the chair of New Referrals Committee, Adult Day Waitlist and Residential Approvals committees as appropriate. Using nursing expertise, the postholder will evaluate clinical need, determine appropriate pathways, and support safe, effective admission, discharge and transfer decisions. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders. The role ensures that referrals are assessed holistically and makes recommendations for the most suitable service, promoting high‑quality, person‑centred care and optimising efficiency across the organisation.
Essential Qualifications:
Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID) on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
Or
A recognised university degree in Nursing or equivalent
and
A post‑registration Level 8 qualification (QQI Level 8 or higher) relevant to the specialist area (e.g., intellectual disability, behaviour support, complex needs)
(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).
And
(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)
Essential Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience with:
- At least 2 years in specialist area (e.g., intellectual disability, autism or complex needs)
- Minimum 3 years working at senior level or in a supervisory capacity
- Experience of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, to include young (and older) adults with ID, their families, schools, clinicians, PICS, Service-Managers, HSE managers, managers in non-SMH disability services
- Good understanding of New Directions and its implications for services and service development
- Good understanding of ADM, its implementation in individual cases, and its implications for SMH decision-making processes.
- Experience of managing case loads of service users with various complexities
- Experience of risk assessment and management of risk registers
- Well-developed IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the ability to use them effectively to improve performance and communications
- Experience of working to deadlines in a busy office environment with accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience in research and report writing
- Exceptional attention to detail and communications skills
- Experience in handling confidential information; demonstrating high levels of integrity and discretion
- Excellent organisational , planning and people management skills
- A driving licence and own/access to a vehicle are required for this role
SALARY SCALE: Successful candidates will be paid in line with the Aug‘25 HSE revised consolidated salary scale for Clinical Nurse Manager 2– (2658) Point 1: 61,463.0,000 to Point 11: 77,666 LSI pro rata based on 37.5 hours per week.
For this role salary scale would be pro rata based on 35 hours per week.
