Canteen Cook

Job Overview 

Norbrook are now recruiting for a Canteen Cook to join our established Canteen team in Newry. Working as part of a small team you will help to produce and serve hot and cold food for employees, serve customers, and operate the till all whilst ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is always maintained. 

Main Activities/Tasks 

• Preparation of breakfast and lunch service for Norbrook employees 
• Serve food to customers and handle cash transactions 
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen and canteen area 
• Taking receipt of deliveries and checking for accuracy 
• Stock inventory and replenishing supplies as needed 
• Stock rotation and proper storage of all food and drinks 
• Monitor fridge temperatures and take the necessary action following any abnormal readings
• Completing the HACCP file daily and following COSHH procedures 
• Assist at private functions as and when required 
• Provide excellent customer service and address customer inquiries or concerns 

Essential Criteria:

• Educated to NVQ level 2 in a relevant qualification 
• At least 2 years’ experience within a similar role; e.g. a school, college or work canteen
• Good organisational skills
• Ability to work as part of a team 
• Strong customer service skills 

Desirable Criteria:

• Basic Food Hygiene Certificate preferred but not essential 
• The following skills and attributes will also be tested at application and interview stages: 
• A strong “can do attitude” 
• Willing to learn all elements of the daily canteen operation 
• Strong communication skills 
• Flexibility to the needs of role including occasional private functions 

Duration: Full time, permanent 

Location: Newry
