Job Summary

This position is for a Caretaker, reporting to the School Principal or a designated supervisor. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that the school environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained for all pupils, staff, and visitors. Flexibility is essential, as duties may vary depending on the needs of the school.

Key Responsibilities

The Caretaker will be expected to carry out a range of cleaning tasks and respond promptly to any issues that may arise during the working day.

The candidate will be required to carry out duties, including but not limited to the following:

▪ Cleaning

▪ Security, including ensuring systems are functioning correctly

▪ Routine inspections

▪ Maintenance and repairs

▪ Groundskeeping

▪ Emergency response repairs

▪ Supplier management and equipment inventory control

▪ Coordination with contractors

▪ Compliance monitoring

▪ Previous work experience in a similar post.

Person Specification

▪ Clear understanding of Health & Safety procedures, particularly in relation to maintaining a safe school environment.

▪ Basic maintenance, technical, and problem-solving skills.

▪ Strong attention to detail to ensure the building is clean, safe, and in good working order.

▪ Good communication, time management, and organisational skills.

▪ Good understanding of safety awareness.

▪ Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and operating machinery.

▪ Punctual, reliable, and trustworthy.

▪ Ability to work effectively and supportively as part of a school team.

▪ Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

▪ Ability to act on own initiative and deal with unexpected issues as they arise.

▪ Strong organisational and time management skills.

▪ Flexibility and ability to respond to unexpected events and changing work requirements.

▪ Willingness to work flexibly and outside normal hours when required.

▪ Willingness to undertake further training and development as required.

Candidates must, by the date of job offer, be:

▪ A citizen of the European Economic Area. The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; or

▪ A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or

▪ A citizen of Switzerland pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or

▪ A non-EEA citizen who is a spouse or child of an EEA or Swiss citizen and has a Stamp 4 visa; or

▪ A person awarded international protection under the International Protection Act 2015 or any family member entitled to remain in the State as a result of family reunification and has a Stamp 4 visa; or

▪ A non-EEA citizen who is a parent of a dependent child who is a citizen of, and resident in, an EEA member state or Switzerland and has a Stamp 4 visa
