The Trade of Carpentry & Joinery

The trade of Carpentry & Joinery is wide and varied, encompassing most of the skills required across the Wood Trades. These skills are not confined to working with wood but also include the use of metals, plastics, and fabrics. A Carpenter & Joiner works across multiple domains within the trade, including the following:

Joinery Shop

This area requires the Carpenter & Joiner to engage in setting out, producing, and assembling items of joinery such as:

  • Stairs

  • Doors

  • Windows

  • Built-in furniture

Site Work

Site work involves the construction of buildings or houses, including:

  • 1st fixing

  • Formwork

  • Roofs

  • 2nd fixing

This work is split into two categories:

  • Construction contracts

  • Civil engineering contracts

Maintenance

Maintenance work involves a variety of tasks related to the upkeep of public and private buildings such as shops and factories.
