Salary Scale
€41,215 p.a. - €71,528 p.a.
Long service Increment 1, €73,913 after three years satisfactory service at the maximum.
Long Service Increment 2, €75,466 after three years satisfactory service at LSI 1
New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of current experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.
Working Week
39 hours per week (exclusive of one hour lunch)
Annual Leave
27 working days per annum.
Probation
In accordance with S.I. No. 686/2022 - European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) Regulations 2022, the period of probation shall not exceed 12 months.

Membership of the ETB Superannuation Scheme and of the ETB’s Spouses and Children’s Scheme is automatic and compulsory.

Job Objectives
Overview of the Role
To provide organisation, preparation and machining of materials for classes and the maintenance of health and safety standards of machines and equipment within the workshops and machine shop as directed by the Principal in line with practices and procedures of DDLETB.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To prepare and machine all required class materials in a timely fashion such that they are ready when required.
- To safely set-up and supervise, when required, workshop machinery for use by the staff and/or students/apprentices.
- To ensure the safe and proper operational conditions of the woodwork machine shop.
- To ensure the safe day-to-day working order of machine shop and workshop equipment and machinery and conduct routine maintenance.
- To organise the stock of materials and consumables and coordinate their distribution where necessary.
- To facilitate the annual inspection and regulatory maintenance of machinery (by contractor).
- To coordinate, with the head of apprenticeship, the other ancillary staff to ensure the good order of facilities and infrastructure.
- To ensure, during all breaks when facilities are not occupied, the thorough cleaning of all work areas and an associated inspection of infrastructure is undertaken.
- To enable the routine and non-routine opening and closing of the workshop premises in accordance with the instructions of the Principal or the Deputy Principal as his/her nominated delegate.
- To be available for overtime in order to undertake the above and other appropriate duties as required.
- To ensure his/her own times of attendance is recorded in the non-teaching staff attendance book in the Front Office. Where duties or other agreed reasons require departure from the building during working hours that the latter be also recorded in the attendance book.
- Any other duties appropriate to the grade which may be assigned from time to time.
Skills Requirement
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Craft Trade certificate in a wood trade or equivalent suitable qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years suitable experience.
- Must be competent and qualified in the use and maintenance of a full range of wood related workshop machinery, equipment and practices.
- Must be fully conversant with safe work practice in a workshop environment and be aware of legislative requirements relating to occupational health and safety.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- A high degree of accuracy and the ability to pay close attention to detail in technical deliverables.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with academic and ancillary staff.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Self-motivation and ability to work independently and be pro-active.
- Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of a team when required.
- Ability to act on own initiative, dealing with any unexpected problems that arise
- Punctual, reliable and trustworthy
- Confidentiality with regard to school business
