Role Purpose:

The Lead Physiologist in Pacing and devices, will be instrumental in providing the clinical and organisational lead in the growth and development of the pacing department. This role would be suited to a dynamic person that is looking to progress in their career and be instrumental in the development of a very dynamic department. There will be significant investment into the cardiology department as a whole, and this appointment will play a key role in this process.

Qualifications/Experience:

Candidates must possess;

  • BSc. in Clinical Measurement Science, Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) or hold an equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence of post graduate accreditation in either Devices
  • At least 2 years of working at a senior level or equivalent.
  • Experience in Electrophysiology desirable

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributing as a key team member of the cardiology department, with specific focus on the Pacing department.
  • A project team member for specification and implementation of a new Cardiology Information System, working with radiology, IT, management, and others.
  • Mentoring staff to obtain their individual competency and in some cases professional accreditation.
  • Continually reviewing the latest technology developments to improve service provision to the hospital
  • Be familiar with the techniques and range of equipment used in current medical practice for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients referring to the pacing Department.
  • To assist the head of department in the day to day running of the department
  • To be responsible for accurate storing of reports generated and ensure all records are properly and accurately documented and maintained.
  • To participate in patient care, i.e. preparation and reassurance.
  • To be professionally responsible for all aspects of the post holder’s own work.
  • Participate in the teaching, training and supervision of new and junior staff.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and guidelines.
  • Support the Head of Department in the implementation of initiatives aimed at improving and developing the services within Cardiology.
  • Providing comfort, reassurance and support to patients in times of high anxiety or distress.
  • At all times treating patients with dignity and respect, exercising discretion and maintaining their confidentiality.
  • Undertake a range of administrative and clerical tasks associated with patient care to facilitate the smooth running of the ward/department.
  • Show evidence of business or purchasing aptitude.
  • Complying with the policies and procedures at Blackrock Clinic, e.g.
  • Excellent communication/inter-personal skills and a high capacity for responsibility and individual initiative
  • Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the health care teams.
  • Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.
  • Attend and contribute to appropriate meetings.
  • Accept constructive advice when appropriate.
  • Report all incidents immediately, which may adversely affect a patient, colleague or the Blackrock Clinic.
  • Communicating clearly and appropriately with patients, their relatives / friends’ colleagues and all other members of the multidisciplinary team including responding to queries, answering the phone, taking messages and passing on written and verbal information to patients.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patients and the activities of Blackrock Clinic.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in all areas of the hospital/clinic as required.
  • Provide cover as appropriate for a hospital; this usually means the holiday periods i.e. Easter, summer and Christmas.
  • Participates in developing and providing quality care within Blackrock Clinic.
  • Assist in the orientation, teaching and supervision of new and junior personnel.
  • Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills and seek outside educational opportunities.
