Full Time – Permanent Contract

Bon Secours Health System is developing a new 150 bed medical facility in Ballysimon to the east of Limerick City. Building works are nearing completion with a plan to open this new state-of-the-art hospital in 2025. This commitment will see the expansion of surgical specialties currently delivered by Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons, plus the addition of cardiology, MAU and other medical services.

We are now inviting applications for the position of Chief Neurophysiologist. As the Chief Neurophysiologist, you will be at the forefront of our neurophysiology services, responsible for leading a dedicated team of professionals in the diagnosis and management of neurological disorders. Your expertise will guide innovative practices and ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Post: Full-time, Permanent position.

Hours of work: To be confirmed at offer stage.

Remuneration: €60,499 - €83,009 per annum LSI. (Commensurate with experience).

Essential Eligibility Criteria:

• The ideal candidate will possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology

or

the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin)

or

an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science (IICMS)

or

possess the Certificate in Medical Physics & Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology

or

an equivalent scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science awarded in or before 2005 (See Note 1*)

And

All candidates must have a minimum of 5 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 5 years fulltime) relevant post qualification experience.

And

candidates must have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

• Membership in the Neurophysiology Society of Ireland (NSI) or equivalent is preferred.
• Familiarity with relevant legislation and standards governing neurophysiology practice in Ireland.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for patient-centred care.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with patients, families, and staff.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• A commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with advancements in department *** technology and quality practices.
• Be competent, innovative, reliable, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
• Excellent planning & organisational skills

Role Responsibilities of the post include, and are not limited to:

• Primarily responsible for the supervision and line management of other physiologists working in the department including personal development training, staff performance, conflict resolution and training need analysis.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of neurophysiologists and allied health professionals.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish comprehensive care plans for patients.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in neurophysiology and integrate them into practice.
• Drive research initiatives and clinical trials to enhance treatment options and improve patient outcomes.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the department.
• Primarily responsible for the maintenance, management and quality of patient reports and scheduling. This may involve prioritising appointments based on clinical need.
• Work with the Consultant Clinical Lead in the developing and carrying out of audits including patient outcomes, peer review, test reports, equipment hygiene etc.
• Work closely with clinicians and other physiologists to develop and implement evidence-based protocols.
• Delegating tasks to senior and basic grade physiologists to ensure the smooth running of the department
• Ensuring the department is compliant with health and safety regulations
• Anticipate changes needed within the department including services, staffing levels and training

Scientific/ Professional:

• Record, measure and monitor selected neuro-physiological activities of patients as required by a clinician.
• Calibrate and maintenance of all electro-encephalography equipment which, includes sterilisation where necessary.
• Calibration, maintenance and liaising with medical physics for routine repairs of all equipment. Ensure all equipment is in good working order and meets cleaning and sterilisation protocols.
• In certain circumstances, modify procedures and know when and where either to carry out photic stimulation and hyperventilation as instructed by clinician and/ or in accordance with established practice.
• Initiate and participate in dealing with medical emergencies including Cardio/ Pulmonary resuscitation.
• Undertake portable testing in some cases.
• Undertake/ arrange routine sleep recording in some cases where resources permit
• Take history and interpret request forms.
• Observe, describe and report any abnormal behaviour occurring during procedures.
• Prepare departmental protocols for clinical investigations.
• Work closely with all clinicians and other physiologists to develop and implement evidence-based protocols.
• Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, national Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare Associated infections, Hygiene Standards, etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role.
