Job Description

12hrs/week x 44 weeks

The above weekly hours and working weeks pattern may be subject to change.

The Principal will determine the working hours, working weeks and period of layoff to meet the needs of the school.

General Duties attached to Cleaner:

1. To take care of the premises and contents and to prevent as far as possible, any damage to the structure, furniture, fittings and equipment.

2. To be responsible for the opening and closing of the buildings as required.

3. To be responsible for the safe use of chemicals and cleaning materials and follow Health and Safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

4. To be responsible when operating cleaning machinery in cleaning soft and hard surfaces, e.g. Vacuum cleaners and polishers and follow Health & Safety guidelines. To keep the premises, furniture and fittings in a clean condition.

5. To keep in a clean condition all glass in doors, windows, etc.

6. To maintain and clean the general corridors and associated areas on a daily basis.

7. To maintain and clean classrooms, staff rooms, offices and toilet & changing rooms as per an agreed schedule.

8. To liaise with cleaners and maintenance staff on a regular and continuous basis.

9. To co-operate and communicate with Student Work and Summer Work Schemes.

10. To co-operate fully with the installation and use of the new technology including communication systems.

11. To exercise economy in the use of fuel and light throughout the building and to monitor and prevent all unauthorised use of same.

12. To keep in safe custody, the keys of all rooms in the building and to ensure that no unauthorized person has any access to any part of the building.

13. To open and close the offices and rooms as directed by the responsible officer.

14. To have all classrooms ready at least half an hour before the official time of commencing.

15. To note and arrange for the receipt and transfer of stores, fuel, classroom material and other general material.

16. To promote and implement energy management initiatives for the benefit of the school.

17. To undertake routine cleaning during school holiday periods, from time to time, under the direction of the Principal.

18. The cleaner should maintain confidentiality at all times regarding the customers using the services of Donegal ETB.

19. Maintain professional and appropriate communication with the student body and others in the school environment.

20. To engage in Supervision as provided for in National Wage Agreements.

21. To perform such other similar duties, as may be required, and generally carry out such instructions as may, from time to time, be given by Donegal Education & Training Board, the Chief Executive, Principal or other responsible officers.

REQUIREMENT

Candidates should note that eligibility to compete for posts is open to:

  • Citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; or
  • Citizens of the United Kingdom (UK); or
  • Swiss citizens pursuant to the agreement between the European Union and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or
  • Non-EEA nationals who hold a valid Stamp 4 or Stamp 5 immigration permission.

Candidates must be eligible by the date of any offer of employment

HEALTH & CHARACTER

Those under consideration for a position may at the discretion of the employer be required to complete a health and character declaration and a Garda Vetting form. References will be sought. Some posts may require special security clearance. In the event of potential conflicts of interest, candidates may not be considered for certain posts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent.

Highly Desirable

Qualification/Certification in the area of:

  • Health and Safety Training, First Aid, and/or Manual Handling.
  • Certification in the use of cleaning and hygiene materials.
  • Other relevant qualifications/certification relevant to the role.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Evidence of being employed in the role of Cleaner in a workplace environment.

Salary: €36,569 - €40,837 (full-time equivalent). Salary will be adjusted pro-rata to weekly contracted hours
