Salary
Clerical Officer salary scale: €31,935 - €49,415
(Based on rates effective 1 June 2026)
Hours of Work
The appointee will be required to work 35 hours per week, together with such additional hours as may be required from time to time for the proper discharge of their duties.
Annual Leave
22 days annual leave.
Annual leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science from time to time.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
The duties will be of a clerical and administrative nature, including:
- Managing front-of-house queries from staff and learners.
- Processing and following up on learner and staff queries and requests.
- Managing ordering requests for the Faculty.
- Organising and scheduling meetings.
- Taking minutes.
- Filing.
- Printing.
- Preparing and inputting material on computers.
- Maintaining records requiring word processing, keyboard skills and knowledge of computer packages.
- Implementing SETU/Faculty systems and procedures.
This role is likely to involve regular contact with learners, staff, the public, organisations and individuals at all levels, where discretion, tact, courtesy and judgement will be exercised at all times.
The postholder will be expected to:
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exercise a good degree of initiative.
- Make decisions within defined limits and guidelines.
- Carry out duties under a reasonable level of supervision and within a team environment.
The postholder will carry out such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the Head of Faculty from time to time.
These requirements provide a broad outline of the duties and responsibilities attached to the positions as currently envisaged. These may change over time in the context of evolving SETU objectives and organisational restructuring.
The posts will require good knowledge and skill in the use of Information and Communication Technologies, and the appointee will be expected to use new techniques and technologies as they arise.
SETU will provide the necessary training as appropriate.
The appointee will be expected to undertake other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Academic Qualifications
- Have obtained at least Grade D3 in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination (Higher, Ordinary, Applied or Vocational Programmes) or equivalent.
- Or have passed an examination at the appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be assessed as being comparable to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent or higher.
- Or have appropriate relevant experience which encompasses equivalent skills and expertise.
Experience
- Have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the role.
Specific Knowledge & Skills
- Analytical and numerical ability, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
I.T. Skills
- Excellent computer skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the use of other IT systems.
Specific Personal Qualities
- Flexibility and a positive attitude towards work.
- Evidence of working as a team player.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
