There is currently one permanent Clinical Engineering Technician, Principal ICPCD vacancy available in Biomedical Engineering Department, Cork University Hospital. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Clinical Engineering Technician, Principal, from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Purpose of the Post:

  • Delivery of Chronic Disease Hubs has provided equipment that facilitates ongoing assessment of patient conditions.in the areas of:
  • Ultrasound
  • ECG
  • Pulmonary Function
  • Patient Monitoring
  • Physiotherapy
  • Management of such equipment in the areas of:
  • Equipment specification
  • Commissioning
  • Ongoing preventative maintenance
  • Service contracts administration
  • Recording & maintenance of an accurate asset inventory
  • HPRA device alerts
  • Clinical staff training on medical devices
  • Equipment replacement and decommissioning advice will be essential to providing a successful service.
  • Experienced engineers working with Procurement, Estates & IT colleagues and will provide for systems integration to manage and facilitate vendor access, data management and optimise workflows.
  • Engineers experienced in the management of equipment needs with the Acute Hospital’s setting, will align the Hub’s equipment facilities needs with that of the Acute setting, to provide for robust diagnostics service within the community.
  • The Principal Engineering Technician will operate within the Biomedical Engineering Department, CUH, which will facilitate integration aspects of the role in a practical fashion.
  • The role will provide support to Chronic Disease Hubs in South West Region

Post Specific Requirments:

  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in all aspects of medical equipment management as relevant to the role, for example specification, tender evaluation, equipment selection, commissioning, maintenance, user training and decommissioning.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of the HSE tender procurement processes as relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in the provision of medical equipment user training as relevant to the role.

Other requirements specific to the post:

  • Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role.
  • Full Irish Driver’s License (no restrictions)
  • A HSE mobile phone will be required to be carried during working hours and when taking part in an on-call rota.
  • A flexible approach to working hours is required for the proper discharge of the duties of the job.
