The purpose of this Clinical Midwife Specialist (Diabetes) post is to:

Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Midwife Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the multidisciplinary Obstetric and Diabetes teams providing a patient centred quality service to diabetes patients and this specialist practice will encompass a major clinical focus, which comprises assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care given to patients with diabetes and their families.

The Clinical Midwife Specialist (Diabetes) will work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team providing care to patients with an existing and newly diagnosed Diabetes mellitus and women with gestational diabetes mellitus in the in-patient and outpatient service, within their scope of practice.

The caseload will include (but not limited to):

- Any woman who develops Gestational diabetes in pregnancy

- Any woman who has diabetes and becomes pregnant

- Follow up postnatal women who developed diabetes in pregnancy.
