Clinical Nurse Manager, Health Protection/public HSE Southwest

Purpose of the Post

The CNM2 Health Protection/Public Health is a multifaceted role in a specialist area of nursing within Public Health. This post is focused on collaboration across multiple disciplines, communities and organisations. It is a leadership role involving; health protection case management, research and data analysis, health improvement and health service improvement, health intelligence, project development and management, coordination of services, communication, decision making skills, management of the Nurse Team. The ability to prioritise care and delivery of a measured response are essential managerial aspects of the role.

The development of specialist knowledge and skills associated with Public Health theory, policy and strategies is a unique aspect of the CNM2 role. The post has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating and managing activity and resources. The CNM2 will work within and across the Public Health Domains, regionally and nationally as appropriate including: Health Protection, Health Intelligence, Health Service Improvement and Health Improvement (hereafter referred to as Public Health Domains). The main responsibilities are: quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.

The purpose of the CNM2 post is to:

· Provide specialist nursing health protection/public health advice and support, taking appropriate action regarding the care and treatment of individuals, groups or communities.

· Provide advice to members of the public, health professionals and facilities requiring information about infectious diseases prevention and control.

· Provide a key clinical and nurse leadership role as part of the multidisciplinary team in the design and delivery of public health services across the four domains of Public Health

· Support population needs-based health service planning within the assigned Public Health Area

· Optimise quality assurance through policy development, audit and research analysis to inform Public Health action and health service planning, prioritisation and evaluation.

· Participate in monitoring and evaluate implementation of interventions to improve population health and reduce health inequalities.
