Clinical Nurse Manager, Operating Theatre

The Coombe Hospital is a national tertiary referral centre for specialised services including maternal and fetal medicine, neonatalogy, gynaecology and anaesthesia. The Hospital has a substantial academic portfolio in terms of multidisciplinary education, research and training. The Hospital hosts two University Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the National Cervical Cytology Training Centre and the Hub Centre for continuing Midwifery education in the Greater Dublin area; the Research Laboratory in the hospital campus is a leading European Centre for molecular biology research.

Clinical Nurse Manager 3 - Operating Theatre 1 WTE

Purpose of the Post:

This post is a key post for the planning, implementation and evaluation of perioperative, obstetric, inpatient gynaecology services and gynaecology day surgery services within the hospital in general. The post holder will demonstrate excellence in clinical, leadership and organisational skills and knowledge. The post holder will be required and expected to operate at a high level in terms of communication and interdisciplinary working, in managing resources including time and staff. The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team at a major teaching hospital in the provision of a safe, effective, high quality nursing & midwifery service to women, babies and their families. The CNM 3 will be responsible for ensuring safe and appropriate integration of care for women receiving perioperative, obstetric and gynaecology day surgery care.

The post holder will ensure that the standards of care provided to patients in the perioperative environment are in keeping with best clinical practice standards; this includes pre, intra and post-operative care.

The post holder is required to participate in teaching & preceptorship of staff either working in or observing maternity & gynaecology services and to participate as required in research as agreed by the Research Ethics Committee of The Coombe Hospital.

The role of Clinical Nurse Manager 3 will not be limited to the above and should reflect established practices in relation to the role of Clinical Nurse Manager 3. It would be expected in the normal course of events that the role will evolve as professional and service demands change. Management structures, budgetary processes and training / education initiatives are the subject of ongoing development to facilitate the exercise of the devolved functions set out above.
