Kerry General Hospital is the second largest of the Health Service Executive –South’s seven acute hospitals. The hospital provides acute general hospital services to the population of Co. Kerry (180,554) and additionally to a proportion of the populations of West Limerick and North Cork.
The hospital has 275 acute general beds; 50 Acute Psychiatric beds, 46 elderly continuing care beds and a 24/7 Emergency Department which cares for 43,000 emergency presentations a year. The hospital treats over 24,000 inpatients per annum and approximately 54,000 patients attend the Outpatients Department.
In addition, the Kerry area has a very large visiting population. It is estimated that there is over 2 million tourists visiting this region annually, principally during the summer months.
University Hospital Kerry has a directorate management structure and is educationally affiliated to MTU Kerry and UCC Cork.

Ø Radiography, including C.T. Scanning Service
Ø Oncology – Day unit
Ø Renal Dialysis Satellite Unit
The post of CNM 2 has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are: quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.
The person appointed to this post is required to support the principle that the care of the patient always comes first and will approach their work with flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient in UHK.
