The Mater University Hospital is one of eight Cancer Centres in Ireland. Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Ireland (National Cancer Forum 2006).In 2021, there were over 25000 invasive cancers diagnosed in Ireland (National Cancer Registry Ireland, 2021). While the incidence of cancer is growing, patients are surviving and living longer.
The Mater University Hospital ESGO Accredited Gynaecological Oncology Service is the largest centre in Ireland, diagnosing over 300 women annually with gynaecological cancer. The centre is the tertiary centre for complex cytoreductive surgery for Ovarian Cancer, and the only centre in Ireland approved for the administration of Hypothermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC). The CNS service delivers a survivorship program for Ovarian Go Forward and Cervical Cancer.
