Clinical Nurse Specialist Infection Control

 Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008.

 The aim of the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Infection Prevention and Control is to optimise patient care through the prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of health care acquired Infection (HCAI).

 The post holder will work in close conjunction with all members of the infection prevention and control team (IPCT) to ensure a cohesive and effective service is provided.

 The appointee will work as a key member of the Interdisciplinary Infection Prevention and Control Team providing specialist infection prevention and control advice, to all healthcare staff on surveillance, prevention, investigation and control of hospital acquired infection.

 The appointee will work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team providing specialist infection prevention and control advice, support and expertise to healthcare staff.

 The post holder will work as part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team in line with the National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance.

 The post holder will be required to provide and maintain comprehensive efficient and effective infection prevention and control service for patients.

 The Clinical Nurse Specialist Infection Prevention and Control must carry out these responsibilities in a progressive and changing service, which meets with International and National Standards as a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team.

 The post holder should be aware of own needs regarding supervision and professional development and work actively towards meeting these.
