Clinical Nursing Specialist – Eating Disorders

The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Eating Disorders will be assigned the authority to participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation, management and delivery of care and treatment for patients attending the specialist eating disorder programme. The may also provide consultancy services to MDTs that require advice regarding this specialist area.

Responsibilities:

· Articulate and demonstrate the concept of nursing practice within the framework of relevant legislation, the Scope of Nursing & Midwifery Practice Framework (ABS2000), The Code of Professional Conduct (ABA 2000) and Guidelines for Midwives (ABA 2001).

· Implement philosophies, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines of Saint John of God Hospital.

· Adhere to Nurse and Midwifery Board of Ireland Guidelines, the Mental Health Act 2001, the Child Care Act 1991 and Children’s First Guidelines.

· Have a comprehensive knowledge of Eating Disorders and the range of therapeutic interventions and treatment modalities available. He/she will demonstrate specialist knowledge of and expertise in the delivery of care, thus demonstrating a higher level of clinical decision making skills in the area of mental health and illness.

· Deliver and co-ordinate the Eating Discovery Programme both inpatient and outpatient (i.e. Remote Programme, Day Care, Aftercare).

· Work with both inpatient and outpatient clients.

· Engage in assessment, planning and evaluation of care to all individuals and families on their caseload.

Essential Qualifications:

· Evidence of current registration on the Psychiatric division of the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or be eligible to register.

· Extensive clinical experience and expertise (a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in mental health services including relevant eating disorder experience).

· An extensive knowledge base regarding the care and treatment of individuals experiencing an eating disorder and the impact of the disorder on the individual (physically and psychologically).
