Purpose of the Role

The postholder will provide a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service and lead the team operating the Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service of CHI. Clinical duties assigned to this post-holder are within the Rheumatology Service predominately in CHI at Crumlin however clinics are also run at CHI at Connolly and Temple Street, which the post holder may be required to attend. The National Paediatric Rheumatology Service is based in CHI at Crumlin and the Occupational Therapy Service provides input for its inpatient and outpatient caseloads with interventions involving 1:1 intervention as well as group work.

The postholder will lead the integration of the Occupational Therapy Rheumatology Services across all CHI sites; and will have the remit to lead the integration and development of standardised pathways across the various sites, in the lead up to the new hospital. This post therefore offers wonderful opportunities for leadership and strategic planning.

The postholder will maintain appropriate clinical skills and leadership competencies, to provide clinical services to children and young person’s attending the Rheumatology OT services; whilst supporting junior members of staff to carry out their clinical duties. The post holder will have responsibility for the supervision of staff. The post holder will also offer support to the staff working within the Rheumatology OT service across all sites, regarding the service in its on-going development.

The successful candidate may be required to work across CHI sites and services in line with organisational requirements and the development of the new children’s hospital and associated services.

Essential Criteria:

· Be registered as an Occupational Therapist with CORU with registration number listed on the CV

· Minimum 5 years’ full time (or equivalent) satisfactory post qualification experience.

· Minimum 3 years’ full time (or equivalent) recent and satisfactory experience with-in the field of Rheumatology (Adult and/or Paediatric) and/or other relevant clinical area.

· To be experienced in splinting.

A proven record of clinical/academic achievement or service development in the specialist area.

· Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of communication and professional skills) for the proper discharge of the duties of the position.
