Applications are invited for a fixed-term appointment as Clinical Tutor in Paediatrics, Part-time (2 x 0.25 FTE Posts Available) at NUI Galway - Sligo and Ballinasloe Campus.
The purpose of this post is to support the Paediatric academic team at NUI Galway and the relevant Academy Dean in the delivery of paediatric teaching to undergraduate medical students, course organisation and assessment of students’ competence. In addition, the post-holder will have a role in research and administration. The post would be suitable for work towards a higher degree (MMedSci or MD). The post will be based in the Discipline of Paediatrics and the post-holder will carry out the duties of the post under the direction of the academic lead for paediatrics in the School of Medicine, NUI Galway and the Head of School. There are two separate posts, one in Ballinasloe and one in Sligo.
The post-holder will support the undergraduate teaching activities in the School of Medicine. They will work closely with similar post-holders in the disciplines of Psychiatry, General Practice, Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology as well as with clinical academic colleagues at NUI Galway to provide co-ordinated development and delivery of specialist clinical education in the undergraduate medical programme.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to actively participate in research and be involved in the formation of research collaborations with other academic departments and clinical staff as appropriate. He/she will also be encouraged to be involved in supervision of research with undergraduate and postgraduate students. He/she will ideally have some research and clinical teaching experience. Support will be available, as appropriate, to aid in the development of specialist educational skills. A commitment to quality in teaching will be sought and an outline understanding of medical education theory and practice is essential. He/she will need to be able to work with colleagues from diverse disciplines.
The successful applicant will be a 0.25FTE employee of the National University of Ireland, Galway and will be appointed at the appropriate rate on the clinical tutor fixed-term salary. The fixed-term post will be effective from Summer 2021. They will be a registered medical practitioner.

Salary:Appointments will be made on the Clinical tutor 1 salary scale: €57,987 – €68,285 per annum or Clinical tutor 2: €69,184- € 84,134 per annum pro rata.
The relevant salary scale will be determined based on candidate’s experience
(This appointment will be made on Clinical tutor scale in line with current Government pay policy)
(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
