The purpose of this Clinical Nurse Specialist (Chest Pain) post is to:

Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008.

Caseload – Adults aged over 18 years with symptoms of or a diagnosis of Chest Pain.

· Triage of patients with chest pain to include symptom analysis and organisation of appropriate tests in consultation with the physician responsible for the care of the patient.

· Fast tracking of patients with suspected myocardial infarction and assisting in urgent investigation and the administration of thrombolysis according to the protocols set down.

· Ensure patients presenting at the hospital with chest pain are admitted and followed up appropriately. This will involve co-ordination with the local general practitioners and cardiology departments in Tipp UH and other centres.

· Liaise with the cardiac technicians and the laboratory in fast tracking and co-ordination of diagnostic tests for acute chest pain patients

· Play a proactive role in quality and service improvement and working closely with the Assistant Director of Nursing.

· They will also be responsible for the monitoring and auditing of clinical standards of care.

· Liaise appropriately with the Multidisciplinary Team members to ensure safe timely and effective care.

· Support and encourage staff in implementation of hospital procedures and policies.

Assist in the event of a major incidents or internal emergencies within the hospital.
