​​​​​As a Community Advocate Volunteer with Simon Community, you'll help raise awareness of homelessness across Northern Ireland and inspire people to take action.
By sharing information you'll help challenge misconceptions about homelessness, build understanding and encourage compassion within communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Speaking and Community Engagement - Deliver engaging and informative talks to community groups, schools, businesses etc. 
  • Advocacy and Awareness ​​​​​​- Act as a positive ambassador for Simon Community, helping to raise awareness of homelessness. 
  • Building Relationships - Develop positive relationships with local community leaders & businesses.​​​​​​​
  • Sharing Stories ​​​​​- Share real-life stories that highlight the impact of our services. ​​​​​​​
  • Learning and Development -Take part in volunteer training provided by Simon Community. ​​​​​​​
  • Working Together ​​​​​​- Work alongside our team to ensure our messages are clear, consistent and impactful.

​​​​The Skills and Qualities We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are passionate about making a difference and helping create a society where everyone has a safe place to call home.
You don't need to be an expert in homelessness, but it would be great if you have:
  • A genuine interest in social justice and tackling homelessness.
  • Good communication and public speaking skills, or a willingness to develop them.
  • Confidence in engaging with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Reliability and a commitment to agreed engagements and activities.

We'll Support You Every Step of the Way
As a Simon Community volunteer, you'll be fully supported throughout your volunteering journey. You'll receive a comprehensive induction and training to help you feel confident and prepared in your role.

As a Community Advocate Volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Make a real difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness across Northern Ireland.
  • Develop valuable skills in public speaking, advocacy and community engagement.
  • Build confidence and gain experience representing a respected charity. ​​​​​​​

Your Commitment
This is a flexible volunteer opportunity, requiring approximately four hours per month. Some evening and weekend availability may be needed.

We would also ask that you:
  • Embrace Simon Community's values, including being non-judgemental, compassionate and person-centred.
  • Attend check-ins and training opportunities to support your development in the role.
  • Work within all relevant Simon Community policies and procedures.
​​​​​​​You'll be helping to change perceptions and bring people together to tackle homelessness. Every story shared and every connection made helps build a more understanding and supportive community.
