We are currently expanding our team to include a Community Connector. You will be joining the core team of permanent staff (currently a team of 6) and will have the opportunity to input into the direction and growth of service provision.

The Person

Reporting to the Programme Director, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has a real passion for equality and social justice. You will be working closely with the services team to codevelop, coordinate and monitor a new and exciting programme that will see our current participants be better included in their community. You will work on a one to one basis with young people with intellectual disabilities to support them in identifying community groups or activities that they wish to partake in. In addition to this, you will work with community groups and organisations to support them in being more inclusive and aware of how to support the needs of these participants.

The Role

  • Support young people with intellectual disabilities in identifying appropriate community-based activities and groups that they wish to partake in.
  • Support community groups and organisations in being more aware about how they can support individual needs and to ensure their group is more inclusive.
  • Work closely with community groups and organisations to create sustainable relationships and natural supports that will encourage a more inclusive environment for our young people.
  • Monitor and evaluate individual successes and report on these when necessary.

Experience

  • A prime element of this role will involve collaborating with multiple stakeholders such as families, young people, community organisations and employers. A proven track record in collaborating with stakeholders is essential for this role.
  • Ability to manage a case load of participates.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • A desire and passion about equal rights to create social change for disadvantaged groups.
  • Experience working with disadvantage groups in the community would be a distinct advantage.
  • There will be some local travel involved in this role and so access to a car would be beneficial but is not essential for this role.
