Staff Grade Counselling Psychologist - Rehabilitative Training Unit (RTU)

(Temporary 6 month Locum Full Time Post )

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following vacancy.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our interdisciplinary team, which provides high quality individual and group-based rehabilitative training to adults with acquired brain injury. The aim is to assist individuals in relearning the necessary life, social and work skills to maximise their potential to enable greater levels of independence and re-integration into the community. The programme acts as a bridge between a clinical rehabilitation programme and further training, living, employment and/or educational services.

The person appointed will be required to deliver individual psychological counselling, assessment, clinical and psychoeducational interventions, and appropriate group training to adults with acquired brain injury. This will include provision of support to clients’ families, facilitation of referrals, and collaboration with professionals involved in the care of the client and work closely with the interdisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential

  • Hold a recognised University degree obtained with first- or second-class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject
  • Hold a professional post-graduate qualification in Counselling or Clinical Psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland and meet the PSI eligibility criteria for membership of the Division of Counselling Psychology.
  • The requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and clinical ability, for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
  • Experience of administering psychometric tests, clinical evaluations and formulations, interventions, therapy plans and clinical report writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and team working skills.
  • Have a high capacity for responsibility, creativity and initiative.

Desirable

  • Experience of working clinically with adults with acquired brain injury and their families.
  • Experience of collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in the assessment, design and delivery of individual treatment plans and group training modules.
  • Experience of working with cognitive rehabilitation and in the development of life, social and communication skills.
