CSSD Operative

Full-time (39 hours per week) | Permanent

The successful candidate is required to be flexible in response to service needs and management requirements.

Candidate Criteria:

Qualifications

• Hold a Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification.

• A QQI/FETAC Level 5 qualification in Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support is desirable.

Experience

• Proven experience in Decontamination or Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) is essential.

• Proficient in the use of information technology and relevant systems.

• Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

• Excellent organisational and time management skills.

• Committed to following all health and safety protocols in line with hospital policies.

The Purpose of This Role:

The CSSD Operative will assist in the production of sterilised medical devices within the hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for cleaning, disinfection, packing and autoclaving of instruments using mechanical and manual methods thus ensuring that a high-quality service is maintained.

Role Responsibilities of the post include, and are not limited to:

• Collecting used and dirty items/sets as required.

• Cleaning, decontamination, washer/disinfector, and inspection of instruments

• Inspection and function testing of devices, to check and inspects all used instruments and other materials returned from
theatres, wards and clinics ensuring that all are identified according to name, type, functions and size.

• Any discrepancies or faults to be reported immediately.

• Packaging, correct labelling and sterilising of instruments.

• Packing/ making up of requisite sets / packs for theatres, wards, and departments.

• Cleaning of trolleys and storage shelves, the steam auto clave, and all other equipment in the department.

• Assist in keeping all floor areas clean and tidy.

• Attend to spillages in CSSD/Theatres/Endoscopy.

• Assist in the disposal of waste according to hospital policy.

• Ensure the segregation of clinical and non-clinical waste according to Hospital policy.

• Report broken or unsafe items which need repair.

• Stocking shelves of the required supplies.

• Check and replace all sharp bins as necessary.

• Maintenance of records where appropriate in line with Hospital policy.

• Handling and storage of material components.

• Compliance with Health & Safety polices & procedures and observance of requirements for personal hygiene and Hospital
Infection Control.

• You will be required to assist as required in the following areas:

- Endoscopy

- Theatre
