Data Engineer

The Central Bank of Ireland serves the public interest by safeguarding monetary and financial stability and by working to ensure that the financial system operates in the best interests of consumers and the wider economy.We currently have a vacancy for a Data Engineer on a contract of indefinite duration in the RAD Division.This role is aligned with the Bank Executive grade and the BE salary scale. New entrants will commence on Point 1 of the relevant salary scale; in this case the starting salary will be €39,871. Please click here for further information on our salary scales.The purpose of the role is to assist the team in providing specialist data analytics expertise in the support of the prudential supervision of firms by supporting the analysis and inspection work required for identification and mitigation of firm-specific/cross sector risks and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.Responsibilities:

• Assist the team in the provision of data analytics in the support of the prudential supervision of firms and mitigation of cross-sector or firm specific risks in order to ensure the stability of the financial services sector.
• Aid delivery of data analysis findings to support supervisory actions through the team’s provision of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and decision analytics.
• Takes responsibility for own work and ensure appropriate outcome of supervisory work that has been completed is communicated clearly and effectively both to the team, and other stakeholders.
• Support the team in maintaining and developing data analytics sources/tools/processes to ensure

• the Directorate can deliver on key projects
• significant trends/developments are escalated in a timely fashion

• Carry out such other ad-hoc activities as may be determined by the Senior Data Analyst/Manager, in particular, to support them in fulfilling the mandate of the team.
• Collaborate with colleagues, developing professional relationships, to ensure effective delivery of projects and supervisory programmes.

Requirements:

• A third level honours degree or professional qualification in the area of statistics, business analytics, computer science, maths, finance, economics, risk or any related professional discipline.
• A Master’s degree in the area of statistics/econometrics, business analytics, computer science, maths, or equivalent qualification (Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), PRMIA)) is advantageous.
• 1-5 years relevant experience in data analytics roles within industry, academia, and/ or relevant financial services is desirable. Relevant experience includes: working in data analytics/data science, statistical consulting/applied research roles, business intelligence, or data-focused risk analysis within insurance, banking or financial services sector.
• Some understanding/ experience in applying data science/analytics in a business context and practical knowledge of relevant analytics software tools and infrastructure.
• Analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
• Experience in at least one of the following areas: data/statistical analysis tools (R,SAS, Matlab), programming languages such as Python/Java/Julia; relational database management (SQL), data warehousing (SQL Server / Services) and business intelligence reporting/visualisation tools.
• Ability to acquire proficiency in the above tools/languages where development is required.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to acquire an understanding of, the broader regulatory environment.
