Your Role:

As the Data Governance Senior Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and overseeing the frameworks and processes that ensure the availability, usability, and integrity of data in the Bank. You will establish and maintain data governance frameworks to improve data quality and manage the protection of sensitive data and information assets. This includes leading Data Quality initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, defining data ownership and stewardship, and fostering a data driven culture across the organisation. You will lead Data Governance Council Meetings and coordinate with stakeholders across the business. You will lead a team that is central to ensuring excellent data management practices across the organisation. You will lead collaboration with various departments to align data governance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, BCBS239, AI Act and other regulations specific to banking. 

Your Team:

Your role will lead the Data Governance team within the `Run¿ Pillar of the CDAO function with key responsibility for teams and capabilities across Data Governance, Master Data Management and Data Quality. This team establishes policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, quality, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance across the organisation.

You will manage the team which leads the organisation's efforts in establishing data ownership, stewardship, and policy. This team directs initiatives on governance practices that align with the company's strategic ambitions, as well as implementing standards that ensure data quality, compliance, and the ability to scale effectively. You will report into the Head of Data and Analytics Operations & Services and lead a team of c.12 people as well as external partners as required.

Your Responsibilities:

Functional Strategy & Delivery

  • Define and lead on the execution of the Data Governance strategy in alignment with overall bank data and business strategy.
  • Lead improvement in Data Quality maturity through implementation of data management framework and associated Data quality related policies, standards, processes, technology, awareness programmes, and benchmarking. With particular focus on BCBS239.

Risk Management & Control

  • Support the Head of Data and Analytics Operations & Services in implementing rigorous audit controls for data processes and analytics to assure the integrity and accuracy of data used in regulatory reporting and financial disclosures, ensuring it meets the criteria for validity, reliability, traceability, timeliness, availability, security, and consistency.
  • Lead the delivery of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and policies that drive data ownership, stewardship, and management of data, with a focus on maintaining high data quality and system interoperability.

Lead an inspiring Culture

  • Champion the development and adoption of data governance frameworks, ensuring that the bank's data operations meet regulatory requirements and industry standards while facilitating effective data utilisation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the Data Governance team, emphasising the importance of regulatory compliance, and robust trusted data to maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Advocate for and raise awareness among stakeholders about the significance of data governance and regulatory compliance, promoting best practices and the strategic use of data assets.
  • Work with the Head of Data and Analytics Operations & Services to collaborate with the cybersecurity and DPO teams to embed robust security protocols into new data systems, safeguarding against breaches and unauthorized unauthorised access.

Requirements: 

Essential ¿

  • Minimum of 8+ years¿ experience and demonstrable track record of achievement in Data Governance, Data management or a relevant area, with at least 3 years in a leadership/management role.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, IT or a related field. 
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management experience in a similar role.
  • Track record of data-driven culture change and delivery within data governance, leading teams to high performance.
  • Strong capabilities in data usage such as master data management, data security, and data taxonomies.
  • Proven understanding of Data Management practices with experience in relevant industry frameworks e.g. DAMA, DCAMs or similar 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and persuade senior decision makers. 
  • Excellent knowledge of the relevant regulatory obligations as they apply to the role e.g. BCBS239, GDPR, Data Protection Act, EU AI Act
