Join us as our Data Protection Officer:
This is a senior, independent role with responsibility for acting as Data Protection Officer for Three, fulfilling the requirements of that role as set out under the GDPR.
The DPO will have oversight of Three’s data protection governance framework and will advise the business and senior management on all matters relating to the protection of personal data. The role exists to ensure that Three meets its business objectives while complying with applicable data protection laws and best practice.
The DPO will act as the primary point of contact with the Data Protection Commission and other relevant supervisory authorities and will ensure that senior management is appropriately informed of data protection risks, obligations, and developments.
What the role involves:
- Acting as Data Protection Officer in accordance with Articles 37–39 GDPR.
- Monitoring and advising on Three’s compliance with Irish and EU data protection law, including GDPR and related legislation.
- Advising senior management and the business on data protection obligations, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Overseeing and maintaining Three’s data protection policies, procedures, and governance framework.
- Providing guidance on data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and reviewing and approving DPIAs where required.
- Acting as the primary contact point for the Data Protection Commission and managing regulatory engagement, correspondence, and inspections.
- Overseeing data protection filings, records of processing activities, and other compliance documentation.
- Responsible for privacy operations, including coordinating day-to-day privacy compliance activities and managing the privacy workflow
- Supporting the business in responding to data subject rights requests, investigations, and data breach incidents.
- Working closely with internal stakeholders to embed data protection by design and by default across projects, systems, and processes.
- Ensuring ongoing awareness and understanding of data protection obligations across the organisation.
- Keeping abreast of legislative, regulatory, and industry developments in data protection and advising the business on their impact.
The skills we’re looking for:
- Excellent knowledge of Irish and EU data protection law and regulatory guidance.
- Significant experience providing data protection advice to senior management in a commercial organisation.
- A suitable legal or specialist data protection qualification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM).
- Over 5 years’ post-qualification experience, including substantial experience in a senior data protection, legal, or compliance role.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgement in pressurised situations.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Experience advising on privacy, governance, and risk in the use of AI/ML is a plus
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams to assess and manage data protection risks.
