Diabetic Retinal Treatment, Doctor Required FOR Maternity Leave Cover

Post commencing 15th September to cover maternity leave. This position is aimed at a qualified post internship doctor at SHO, Registrar, Community Physician level.

This post will involve a role in the Diabetic Retinal Treatment Centre . Weekly sessions will include:

  • Assessment and review of referrals from Diabetic Retina Screen Programme
  • Assessment and review of patients attending the DRT Clinics with both Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Eye disease.
  • Assessment of Photography and Ocular Coherence imaging to determine stage of retinopathy
  • To perform laser photocoagulation when appropriate
  • To perform Intra-ocular injections when appropriate
  • To enter all activity on RetinaScreen Electronic Medical Record system (Optomize)

Candidate must hold active registration with the Irish Medical Council. Hold current permit/visa to work in Ireland

DUTIES

1 To perform an Ophthalmic service in the Eye Department of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

2 To report to the Consultant Ophthalmologist / Clinical Lead – Head of Department, Ophthalmology.

3 To liaise with other medical, paramedical, nursing and administrative staff when appropriate.

4 To be involved in teaching and clinical audit. To be involved in epidemiological and other research into eye problems as required. To make such statistical reports and returns as are required in conjunction with the Consultant Ophthalmologists. To liaise closely with the existing Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons with particular reference to patients who require surgical treatment.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

REPORTS TO: Consultant Ophthalmologist

(Clinical Lead – Head of Department Ophthalmology)

WORKS WITH: a)Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons and other professional staff at the Eye Department, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin.

b)Other appropriate medical, nursing, and technical personnel in the hospital.

c)Community Ophthalmic Physicians, General Practitioners, Diabetic Clinical Nurse Specialists and Public Health Nurses in community care, general practice, or other health institutions, local authority and voluntary bodies.

d)Administrative staff in arranging clinics and making returns.
