There are four Maternity Units in the Ireland South Women and Infants Directorate – University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital and South Tipperary General Hospital - spanning four of the largest counties in the country. The Directorate includes Neonatology and Gynaecology as well as Midwifery and Obstetrics.

The Group’s Primary Academic partner is University College Cork. A wide range of educational programmes and research is conducted within all hospitals in the Group.

CUMH is the clinical site for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing and midwifery education programmes which are delivered in partnership with the School of Nursing and Midwifery at University College Cork.

Our Dietetic Department provides nutritional care CUH, CUMH and St Finbarr’s Rehabilitation Unit. We currently employ 53 WTE dietitians providing clinical nutrition services across the specialities of Paediatrics; Nephrology; Endocrinology; Oncology; Cystic Fibrosis; Surgery; Gastroenterology; General Intensive Care; Cardiology & Heart Failure; Neonatology; Ketogenics; Stroke; Food Provision; Respiratory; Neurosurgery; Cardiac Intensive Care; Neurology; Rheumatology, Orthopaedic & Trauma; Care of the Older Person; Rehabilitation; Infectious Diseases; Acute Medicine; Cardiothoracics; Urology, Plastics and Maternity. The Dietetic Department is divided into five competency-based groups, and we are the main training site for the dietetics post graduate master’s programme at University College Cork. Purpose of the Posts

1.Clinical Specialist Eating Disorder located in Cork University Hospital (CUH – Adults & Paediatrics) (1 x WTE)

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of dietetic care to patients with eating disorders across both adults and paediatrics services at CUH. The role also includes developing policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the hospital, leading and supporting staff to maintain and develop clinical competencies in the management of these patients through training, supervision, and audit, and ensuring continuity of care across the paediatric–adult interface.

2. WTE Women's Health Clinical Specialist located in Cork University Maternity Hospital (0.5 x WTE)

To provide specialist dietetic expertise, clinical leadership, and support in the delivery of evidence-based nutrition care for women attending services operated by CUMH including the Supra-Regional Endometriosis Centre in CUMH. The post holder will contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality services, with a focus on integrated regional care pathways. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the role includes supporting service development, maintaining professional standards, contributing to clinical governance, and ensuring alignment with CUMH objectives and the National Endometriosis Framework.

3. Clinical Specialist Paediatrics located in Cork University Hospital (0.5 x WTE)

To provide specialist clinical leadership and expert dietetic care to infants, children, and adolescents in the Paediatrics in CUH. This post will include responsibility for the paediatric HDU (HDU). Ensuring the delivery of safe, timely, and evidence-based nutritional support. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and management of complex patients requiring advanced nutritional interventions, working closely with the multidisciplinary team. The role includes supporting clinical governance, enhancing service delivery, promoting best practice in paediatric critical care nutrition, and contributing to ongoing service development and quality improvement initiatives in line with HSE standards.

4. Clinical Specialist in Care of the Older Person located in Cork University Hospital (1 x WTE)

To provide expert leadership, clinical excellence, and strategic direction in the delivery of evidence-based dietetic care for older adults within Cork University Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for the comprehensive nutritional assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of specialised interventions tailored to the complex needs of the older population, including frailty, malnutrition, multimorbidity, and cognitive impairment. As a senior member of the multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Specialist will support regional integration.
