Cork University Hospitals Group (CUHG) is the HSE statutory acute hospital provider for Cork. The group comprises 3 acute hospitals, Cork University Hospital Wilton (Model 4), Mallow General Hospital (Model 2) and Bantry General Hospital (Model 2R), 2 community inpatient units (St. Finbarr’s Hospital Rehabilitation Unit and Riverstick Transitional Care Unit).

Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is a 150 bedded Tertiary Referral Centre for Maternity, Neonatology and Gynaecology located on the campus of Cork University Hospital. CUMH incorporates the Obstetric, Gynaecology and Neonatology Services in the Cork University Hospital Group within the Health Service Executive Southern region. CUMH has approximately 8,000 births per annum and is a tertiary referral centre.

Cork University Hospital is the largest statutory / HSE hospital in Ireland and the only Model 4 (Specialist Academic Teaching) Hospital in the state with all acute surgical and medical specialities integrated on the same campus (Adults, Paediatrics, Maternity and Mental Health). It is a regional centre for secondary and tertiary care for the catchment area of HSE South, and also provides a number of supra-regional services in a range of specialities to the entire southern one third of Ireland, spanning 3 other RHA areas, and treating patients from the counties of Limerick, Clare, Kerry, Tipperary, Wexford, Carlow, Laois, Waterford and Kilkenny. At a national level, CUH Wilton is one of two designated Level 1 trauma centres in the country, one of two 24/7 neurosurgical and stroke thrombectomy centres, one of five 24/7 PPCI centres, one of four cardiothoracic surgical centres, one of two comprehensive coagulation & haemophilia centres, a cystic fibrosis centre, and one of eight (NCCP) Cancer Centres. CUH provides level 3s critical care with regional services to neurosurgery and cardiothoracics. CUH currently employs 3,488 WTE of multiple professions and is the primary teaching hospital for the Faculty of Health and Science at University CollegeCork. CUH aims to be valued for its expertise in the provision of quality acute healthcare services and to positively impact the lives of those we encounter.

Our Dietetic Department provides nutritional care CUH, CUMH and St Finbarr’s Rehabilitation Unit. We currently employ 53 WTE dietitians providing clinical nutrition services across the specialities of Paediatrics; Nephrology; Endocrinology; Oncology; Cystic Fibrosis; Surgery; Gastroenterology; General Intensive Care; Cardiology & Heart Failure; Neonatology; Ketogenics; Stroke; Food Provision; Respiratory; Neurosurgery; Cardiac Intensive Care; Neurology; Rheumatology, Orthopaedic & Trauma; Care of the Older Person; Rehabilitation; Infectious Diseases; Acute Medicine; Cardiothoracics; Urology, Plastics and Maternity. The Dietetic Department is divided into five competency-based groups, and we are the main training site for the dietetics post graduate master’s programme at University College Cork. Our department vision is to provide high quality nutritional care for those we serve, with a focus on clinical excellence and continuous improvement; the right care, in the right place at the right time and our values are respect, communication, fairness and equity, teamwork and positivity.

Purpose of the Post(s)

The Dietitian, Senior will provide high quality clinical nutrition services to the patients under the care of the relevant specialities.

A. Stroke (1 x WTE): The successful candidate will join another Senior Dietitian within a well-established stroke service, providing specialist dietetic care as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. This post offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in stroke care and contribute to the ongoing development of a high-quality, evidence-based service.

B. Care of the Older Person (2 x WTE): These two posts will join an existing Staff Grade Dietitian as we significantly expand dietetic services for older people. The successful candidates will work at the hospital front door with the Frailty Intervention Team, in the Emergency Department and across inpatient services, playing a key role in the early identification and management of nutrition-related risk in frail and older adults.

C. Neuroscience (1 x WTE): This post will provide specialist dietetic care across non-traumatic neurosurgery and neurology. It offers an exciting opportunity to develop advanced expertise within a complex and evolving clinical service and to work closely with specialist multidisciplinary teams caring for patients with a wide range of neurological conditions.

D. Critical Care (1x WTE): The successful candidate will join an established team of 2.5 Dietitians delivering specialist care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly specialised and progressive service, contributing to evidence-based practice, service development and excellence in critical care nutrition.
