The Muiriosa Foundation is a Section 38 voluntary health organisation providing services to people with intellectual disabilities, and Autistic people with co-occurring intellectual disabilities. We are publicly funded by the Department of Health, through the HSE. The Muiriosa Foundation employs approximately 1500 staff and provides residential and day opportunities to over 500 individuals. The Muiriosa Foundation has been working intentionally to support people with intellectual disabilities to participate as equal citizens in society in line with UNCRPD. We believe that Technology can play a key role in enhancing independence, autonomy and building inclusive environments.
We are seeking a creative, passionate, and dynamic Digital Accessibility and Assistive Technology Coordinator who loves thinking outside the box and working collaboratively to support people to communicate, participate, and live life on their own terms. The successful candidate will work closely with individuals, families and support staff to facilitate the person’s right to access Assistive Technology that supports communication, participation, independence and quality of life.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have / be able to demonstrate the following:
Essential Criteria:
- An NFQ Level 6 qualification or higher in a relevant area (e.g. Assistive Technology, Disability Studies, IT/Digital Skills, Education or Training) with demonstrable experience specifically in Assistive Technology and/or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in disability, community or education settings. While a professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy is not essential, it would be advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of Assistive Technologies and their application for communication, independent living, creative expression and leisure, education and employment
- A passion for Assistive Technology and an excellent understanding of how technology can support independence and wellbeing
- An understanding of digital accessibility and how inclusive digital design supports equitable access and participation
- Excellent problem-solving skills and proven ability to take initiative.
- Full, clean manual driving licence and access to own car. The successful candidate will be required to travel across the three regions listed above.
Essential Assistive Technology knowledge and skills:
We are seeking a candidate with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Assistive Technology for Communication, including low-tech and high-tech AAC systems
- Multimodal and Total Communication approaches, using strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming practice
- Knowledge of access methods (e.g. direct touch, switches, alternative access, mounting and positioning)
- Ability to adapt and customise devices and software to meet individual sensory, cognitive and motor needs
- Familiarity with mainstream and specialist technology (e.g. tablets, apps, software and accessibility features)
- Confidence troubleshooting basic technical issues and adjusting settings to improve usability
- Understanding that Assistive Technology must align with the person’s identity, preferences, routines and communication style
- Ability to involve the person meaningfully in decision-making, regardless of communication method
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working with autistic adults and/or adults with intellectual disabilities and high support needs.
- Experience of working in community or social care settings.
- Knowledge of the Assisted Decision-Making Act (ADMA)
- Strong Microsoft Suite skills for administration and database management
- Prior Digital AT & media project management or administrative experience
- Experience in completing funding applications
- Experience in carrying out assessments and developing innovative and person-centred AT plans.
- Knowledge of and alignment with neurodiversity affirming practice

The salary for this post will be in line with SCM1/CNM1 pay scale or other equivalent scale, in line with qualifications and experience.
