Digital Communications Officer
Essential Qualifications and Skills Candidates must: • have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the role to a high standard; • be capable and competent of fulfilling the role to a high standard; • have obtained at least Grade O6 (formerly D3) in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination (higher, ordinary, applied or vocational programmes) or equivalent or have passed an examination at the appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be assessed as being of a comparable to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent or higher or have appropriate relevant experience which encompasses equivalent skills and expertise. Desirable Qualifications and Skills • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Media, Graphic design or any other relevant field. • Experience in multi-media production including; video (filming and editing), audio (podcasts), photography and graphic design. • Knowledge of online news sites and agencies. • Experience in media relations with excellent contacts. • Experience in updating websites and creating engaging online content. • Excellent social media skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, utilise resources and meet deadlines • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders. • Exceptional organisational skills, multi-tasking capabilities, fast response time and strong attention to detail required. • Knowledge of the third level education sector in Ireland. • This position requires a high level of organisation and prioritisation of tasks. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Strong creative mind-set and an innovative attitude to new ideas, approaches, platforms. • Meticulous attention to detail. • Proven record of following through on commitments. Overview of the Role
The Digital Communications Officer will play a crucial role in shaping and delivering dynamic multimedia content to enhance the University's digital presence and engage with a wide online audience. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on creating and managing multimedia content, including video, audio, graphic design, animation, and photography, to support the University’s communication strategies. The role will be responsible for producing content tailored for online media outlets, social media platforms, online news agencies, and other digital channels. The successful candidate will work closely with the communications team to ensure consistent messaging and branding while enhancing engagement across a variety of platforms. This role requires a creative individual with technical expertise and a passion for engaging audiences through innovative digital storytelling across various media.
Duties
• Develop high-quality multimedia content including video, audio, animations, photography, and graphic design for use across various digital platforms. • Plan, storyboard, shoot, and edit video content for online media, social channels, and news outlets. • Capture and edit audio content for podcasts, interviews, and other audio-based communication initiatives. • Create visually engaging graphic designs and animations for campaigns, social media, and web platforms. • Ensure that all multimedia content aligns with the institution’s brand guidelines and tone of voice. • Collaborate with the communications team to develop content strategies that support key campaigns, projects, and university initiatives. • Work with media agencies and online news outlets to distribute multimedia content effectively. • Develop relationships with online news agencies and build on media relations with the communications team. • Analyse and report on the performance of multimedia content using analytics tools, adapting strategies as needed to improve reach and engagement. • Create social media campaigns in line with communications strategy. • Work closely with other departments to understand their content needs and create multimedia that communicates their key messages. • Manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and content is delivered to the highest standards. • Support the communications team in managing crisis communications, ensuring prompt and appropriate multimedia responses when required. • React swiftly to breaking news or institutional developments by producing rapid-response content for online news and media outlets.
Salary Salary Scale - (€51,211 – €61,251) *Candidates external to the sector may be appointed up to the 3rd Point (€54,302) of the Salary Scale in accordance with University Policy. Hours of Work 35 hours per week
